  1. There’s nothing to get over. It’s just perplexing trying to understand why you two whine about the current state of the transfer portal and NIL completely year round. No new dialogue or talking points, just the same rehashed frustration.
  2. This is so tiring, guys. Over and over, we get it. Matthew Moore didn’t play at all here for two years then hit the portal. At the very least strongly encouraged to transfer.
  3. Many of them know they AREN’T going to the NFL and this is the best time to capitalize on their abilities monetarily.
  4. Part of it is he just can’t create his own shot. Showed signs of being able to in Florida but otherwise he’s pretty reliant on the looks he is getting from other players.
  5. Miles hops on with me to discuss the new DC hire and more
  6. Should fit that hybrid DE/LB role. Hopefully Zhaiylen Scott stays because I think he’s a perfect fit as well. Better fit in Cassity’s front than he was in Caponi’s
  7. I think your points are good but it just seems reductive to lump Cassity with Caponi because they are young. And I get the broader point is experience more so than age, but in addition to 3 years of DC playcalling duties compared to none for Caponi coming here, Cassity just led a one-year turnaround that is exactly the kind we are hoping for. That’s the kind of urgency I want Morris to show right now.
  8. I think the biggest weakness in the front for me has been not being able to set the edge as a defensive line. When your DEs are lined up more inside the tackles it’s harder to set the edge effectively, especially when some of those DEs are more like undersized DTs who aren’t as quick or hard to reach block. We have had a very soft edge and our LBs and safeties don’t do a great job with angles or understanding that you can’t bite on jab steps towards the middle part of the field when it’s obvious the runner wants to get outside you because that’s where you don’t have help defenders set up. Similarly on pass rush, we don’t set up good paths to the QB in the 3-3-5 stack because we have not been able to put pressure on tackles getting beat to the outside. And the blitzes never really had the same effect because blitzers are looking for a clean path to the QB and trying to avoid getting engaged by a lineman. Which is easier for a QB to manipulate than a DL’s path, and the blitzer vacates part of the field. Mccown for example was able to make one quick move up in the pocket, sometimes after baiting the blitzer a certain direction, and suddenly he had nothing but green grass for days. I think more of a 4-2-5 look would at least give us a chance to be more competitive setting the edges. I think that’ll go a long way and give us an easier chance at success given the caliber of athletes that are available at our level.
  9. I think what Odom was running at USC was a 3-3-5 that had a “RUSH” position serving as a hybrid DE/LB lined up on the line of scrimmage, so really only 2 second level linebackers, making it similar to a 4-2-5 in effect. Different from Caponi’s 3-3-5 stack. Maybe someone like Chavez Brown could play that type of role but not exactly a lot of time to implement that level of scheme change. https://usctrojans.com/sports/2022/8/31/2022-usc-trojans-football-roster-depth-chart
  10. I’ll take Morris over Littrell all day, at least at the timing of the decision. I think he is a better offensive coach and recruiter. The QB thing isn’t just a coincidence, and Littrell could only produce one which is part of what sunk him. That being said, I think it is extremely important that Mosley educate Morris on what went wrong with Littrell. Morris said almost verbatim what Littrell said when he hired a DC. That you get a guy “who is tough to coach against.” This move backfired in both cases, but especially with Morris where that 3-3-5 stack didn’t make as much sense against the offenses in this conference. Mosley should’ve been there to push back on that echo chamber stuff with the relevant example. Similarly Littrell went heavier on inexperienced portal guys with more eligibility when he could’ve benefited from adding more experience, especially defensively. Morris is going heavy HS which is good for building a foundation and those guys are less likely to transfer, but we also desperately need some ready to play guys. Particularly ones who you don’t have to suspend indefinitely to start the season. I think Morris does some things well and knows what it takes to run a quality team, but Mosley really needs to help educate him on where Littrell went wrong and push back on Morris if he’s thinking along the same lines in certain aspects. It doesn’t have to be the same movie with the same ending and Mosley needs to ensure it isn’t.
  11. Felt like a road split from the Minnesota/McNeese swing would be a success. Glad we clinched that, but feels like the team is more than capable of 2-0 there.
  12. We discuss the Army game and get into our Friday night matchup with our rivals from San Antonio
  13. He posts that exact tweet anytime a team loses a buy game. I wouldn’t take it as disrespect.
