Just watched TCU beat OU remembering in 2002 (I think) when we played them so close. They stopped playing body bag games, scheduled weaker opponents and got wins in conference. I know financially that's hard to do, but that's got to be the blue print. You need several years of going 10-2 or 11-1. People start paying attention.

The problem with last year, and all the Dickey years for that matter, is that we followed up bowl games with the next years OOC losses which disappoint the fans and convince the casual fan that we're still just an average team.

All those years TCU was playing weaker opponents and racking up wins, people would say "yeah but they didn't play anyone". Recruits and casual alumni fans don't care when the stadium is electric and the tailgate is awesome.

I just watched that game too, and honesty can say I'm jealous of how far TCU has come over the years. I agree with getting rid of the body bag games as well. But for starters, I think North Texas needs to stay at 7-5 and eventually get to that 11-1 or 12-0 you're talking about. No more of the 4-8 negative bull. We don't want to play cupcakes, but like you said. Schedule some recognized even or weaker competition to build up our rep and gain recruits.

A win is a win is a win. Schedule softer and win football games. It doesn't matter who we beat, we just have to beat them. It's a mindset that has to be established and starting your season off at UT is a recipe for a bad year. Last year we finally kicked off the season in gods know how long and we took care of business which shot us in the right direction for the season. More of those games and please no more body bags.

I continue to think that NT's problem is recruiting more than scheduling. It's nice to have a great walk on program, but the truth is that if NT was recruiting better there wouldn't be close to the number of walk-ons that NT has given ships to. I think McCarney and staff have demonstrated that they are much better developing players than past NT coaches. but I don't think you can build a consistent winning program without elevating recruiting.

Winning and recruiting go hand in hand to a large extent.

I'd like to see a schedule something like this:

AAC school (which will be SMU for the next 9 years)

FCS school or G5 also ran (Idaho, NM St., etc)

MAC school

P5 also ran (Indiana, Vanderbilt, Kansas, etc)
