Hoosier State of Mind takes a look at the key players for Indiana football’s upcoming opponent. This week, let’s examine the North Texas Mean Green.

The Hoosiers, reeling from a 37-15 beatdown at the hands of Maryland return home to host 2-2 North Texas. For an Indiana team seeking to keep its bowl game hopes alive, this one is a must win. Here’s who you need to know when the Mean Green line up against the Hoosiers on Saturday.

Quarterback Dajon Williams

Williams, a redshirt freshman, relieved Josh Greer in the fourth quarter of the Mean Green’s second game of the season against Louisiana Tech. North Texas had put up just 134 yards through three quarters before Williams led the Mean Green to a pair of late touchdowns on three possessions. Clearly, he was the spark this team needed.

He started North Texas’ next game against lowly Nicholls State and was 11-of-14 through the air for 176 yards and three touchdowns. He also carried the ball four times for 68 yards and two TDs. It sounds impressive, but I wouldn’t look too much into it. Nicholls State is a terrible, terrible team.

So, in summary, Williams is your classic dual-threat QB, and considering how the Hoosiers did against Maryland’s dual-threat QB, Williams could be in for a big day.
