Running up and down the field in the first start of his college career boosted the confidence of North Texas quarterback Dajon Williams.

What really gave the redshirt freshman a good feeling, though, was what took place during what became a remarkably important bye week before UNT’s game on Saturday at Indiana.

Williams and the Mean Green marched up and down the field against what is usually a pretty stout UNT starting defense that nearly shut out SMU and stifled Nicholls State during a 77-3 win on Sept. 20.

“I got a lot out of the open week, especially going with the ones [first team] against our defense,” Williams said. “We moved the ball a lot against them also. If we can move on them, we can move the ball on anybody because we have one of the best defenses around.”

Again, Williams is thankfully wearing a red jersey in practice. He doesn't have to take a hit.

Still, this does generate more hope for good things vs Indiana

For some reason im not worried about Dajon and the offense. I think Dajon will give them problems and find open wrs and tes in that secondary. Im worried about our defense.

Well I'm more concerned about DW than I am our defense. They are going to be doing their best to rattle his cage, and how he reacts to that will say a lot about how he will function the whole game.....or the whole season for that matter.

I understand they have a very outstanding RB. Does anyone know how he compares to Dixon at LT?

No comparison. Coleman has rushed for far more yards in one less game (691 to 433), averaging 7.9 per carry (to Dixon's 5.2), and he has done it against comparable competition.

Is he a power runner? Or a speed runner like Dixon?

"finished second at the 2011 Illinois Class 2A track meet in the long jump (23-0.25) for the second straight year and fourth in the 100m (10.86)".

He's a combo of both, and can definitely take it to the house if you let him get by you.

I dont think they will be able to come after Dajon like that. Thier secondary is not that good. May be one or the weaker secondaries we have faced over the last two years. Tulane, la tech, rice, utsa, Texas were able to give us trouble and put more in the box because they had decent secondaries.

I can see this game going back and forth and the winner being the defense that can get the most stops and turnovers.

Im just hoping we play better defense than we did against la tech. We showed we can slow down the run, but we also made some bad calls and showed if we key on the run, we can be beaten in coverage. Im sure they are going to go after buyers if the safeties key on the run. Jj may get a few double moves since he has been jumping routes in all four games.

Our defense was doing a great job of keeping the LT QB off his game. But he kept getting back out there quickly because our offense sucked and couldn't move the ball. He eventually got his "rhythm" with his receivers and it was all over after that. The insistence of "someone" to keep playing Greer pretty much did us in. Hell, McNulty would have done better and the game might have stayed competitive going into the half.

We better make the decision to burn Mean's RS this year should anything happen to DW, or our season is screwed.

Truer words were never spoken. DW's take it or leave it approach to conditioning concerns me greatly for a future injury this season. If that happens and we want to stay competitive, we have to burn Means redshirt.

Not that Means will be the answer, butwe know that Greer and McNulty most definitely are not.

A terrible situation to be in.
