Ha! Nice creative writing story arc there at the end, Vito.

I'm really glad to hear about all the late night film room and QB test revamp from Dajon. It's Canales' tests that kept a few other highly lauded QBs we had over the last few years off the field.

Has the one to whom you refer even seen the field for Northern Colorado?

This is why we're not undefeated, dontchaknow.

But yes, I agree, best Vito article I've read. For once he's not trying to get some cloak and dagger scoop or making derisive comments about those who rubbed him wrong (even if said derisive comments may have been merited). This was a really good read.

Ya'know...if being a student of the game is just as important to Canales as innate ability, then I wonder why he didn't vet the young man from Colorado before they invited him to "come on down" to Texas. A few well placed phone calls to coaches who had direct experience with him would have saved the coach AND the program a lot of wasted time and trouble.

That explains a lot to me. Greer must be a football nerd when it comes to studying for the position. Which is why Canales spent so much time pounding that (innate ability wise) square peg into a round hole during spring. I rated Greer around fourth amongst the candidates.

Being great with the white board doesn't translate into being a great QB.....or a great leader. As a coach your main job is to 1. evaluate/assess raw talent, 2. find the best way to MOTIVATE that talent and 3. proceed to coach/motivate the talent on an individual basis (one size doesn't fit all when it comes to motivating players).

You can motivate a player to be a better scholar of the game, but you can't coach innate ability.....or the lack thereof.

For the record, if anything were to happen to DW, I would look at putting in McNulty, Means, or Cousins before I would turn to Greer.

I agree with a whole lot of what you say here.

But, I think the staff did see the ability in Berglund, which is why they brought him here, hoping he would grow up and work past some of his issues.

Sadly, it appears that day is still a long way away for the FCS 3rd teamer.
