If he IS this good...

BIG DAWG

Recommended Posts

If Dajon Williams is this good against "regular" competition, the biggest payoff will be when he is a junior/senior. That's when you can seriously expect one of those BIG upsets, and/or magical seasons.

Mac will have this defense playing better each and every year he is here...mid-majors w/ dynamic QBs pull off the upsets which lead to the BIG seasons

I seriously think DW will change this season completely. They interviewed him after the game, and he was saying his confidence is what made the plays. Clearly what Greer has none of. When I saw DW throw that beautiful pass in the beginning of the game, to score a touchdown.... I knew... He's the NT QB for us...

I'm going to take a page from local pessimist, UNT90, and refrain from getting too excited due it being Nichols St. However, as other posters have stated on many other threads here, if you watched him play today, you can't deny the kid has ability. We haven't seen a QB that is a legitimate dual threat player come through here since........?

Ever. Andrew Smith was extremely talented but we tragically never got to see what he could be. Scott Hall was a very good player and leader but he did not have DW type athletic talents. The closest that I can recall might be Scott Davis but he did not have the arm that DW has. Mitch Maher was extremely accurate but again -- I just don't know if anyone had the raw ability and vision that DW has. There have been good QB's but none of them were 6-3/6-4 with this type of arm and running ability. He has a long way to go to get to the performance, durability and level of play that these other QB's had but he's just a freshman~ it is extremely exciting to think of why he could be for us!

Those seam routes are golden in this type of offense. Terrell benefitted from it as well. Terrell will have to prep for potential pops from safeties against stiffer competition, but this style of offense is a grind on linebackers bc they get sucked in or sideways with even a half hearted read-option play action. Thus leaving the bent seam routes wide open. This will force teams to automatically play 2-deep which in hand gives wiggle room for the run game.

I criticize play calling a lot, but Chico was innovative today on one particular play. DW did the read option and kept the ball by design, as he was moving to his left Carlos Harris snuck in for a little reverse. It was nice.

Another wrinkle to add in the read-option is a motioned pitch man if DW keeps the ball on the read. Opposing teams at times like to sneak up a S to take out the QB on the read. If a team starts doing that this is a perfect play to make the safety stay home. Just food for thought. GMG

Although we probably played one of the worst teams in the country, what excited me was watching DW's instincts and mechanics. You can just tell that the dude is real player. Against Nicholls there was a lot of room for error since our WR were wide open most of the night, so I think the biggest thing to watch out for is the mental mistakes. But physically, dude can ball.
