Where we go from here with DW at QB

I'm mostly with Withers, but I think we'll trip up with one of the expected wins. I also think UTSA is going to be tougher than Rice. But for anyone thinking we don't have a shot at being close to tops in the West, remember...even the best team ahead of us is likely to lose one. Remember, we held the tiebreaker over Rice last year but UTSA took us down and ended up winning the tiebreaker, so we ended up going from #1 to #3 after just one loss because of tiebreakers. If only Tulane had never happened, haha.

Screw it. 11-3. Win out and lose to Marshal in CUSA game. Beat down whatever weak big10 opponent in HoD, probably Purdue. 60k in attendance which puts us in top 10 in terms of bowl attendance and that last showing in HoD squeaks us into the top 25 at #25.

Why not North Texas? D-dub is going to take pressure, and I mean a ton of pressure off the D. They'll know that they just need a stop and the O will have a great shot of scoring points. He is also going to open up a ton of holes for our quicker backs. GMG

I think you are being optimistic with that prediction. FAU and UTEP will be tough, if we win one of those that would be good. Our defense got exposed last week by La Tech. All of our upcoming opponents are going to see that and attack that. We do not put enough pressure on the QB and we are vulnerable to good passing teams. Add to that that we are small on the defensive front and we have a chance to be exposed there.

QB was a huge problem for this team, the biggest problem. But it was far from the only problem we face to be competitive in CUSA and for a bowl game.

Add to that too that, you all seem to think the offensive game plan will suddenly change. That won't happen. Mac is stubborn and he does what he does. The offensive game plan will be exactly the same, if not more conservative with Dajon at QB. We can only hope that Dajon can complete passes on the very few opportunities he gets. It wont be an issue vs Nichols as we can run over them, but it will be an issue the rest of the season. He won't throw the ball more than 15 times a game, if its event that many.

I am excited as any about Dajon starting, but I think everyone is overlooking a lot of weaknesses we have in their exuberance about Dajon. He probably wont be pass blocking, he probably won't be playing any on defense - secondary or Dline, and he won't be calling the plays.

Agree, in fact I started an entire thread about it. However, most focused on the Dajon part and just said we need Greer out, the rest of the team has a lot of improving to do.

Special teams is not making any big plays, like they did last year.

Tons of penalties.

Not as much of a pass rush which puts pressure on the secondary.

What I do think is if the offense moves the ball a little better, and I think they will with Dajon, it will take the pressure off the defense some and make them better.

But, this doesn't solve all problems. The offense needs to not fumble and get penalties on big plays, because Dajon is still a freshman and will make mistakes.
