Did he tell you this?

He has been here over a year. If he doesn't know the playbook, he is the dumbest human on earth or this offense is more complicated than rocket science.

Did he look like he didn't know the playbook the other night?

It's really dumb to think (or accept, if a coach uses this excuse) that a kid that has been on scholarship this long doesn't know the playbook.

whoever starts against Nicholls is starting the rest of the year... that QB will have practiced this week (and provided he doesn't throw 4 INTs), will then have the next two weeks to practice... so the qb taking taking fist team snaps will have eaten up a solid 3 weeks of practice time... i would be very surprised to see Mac start over with someone new...

i'm ready to see Dajon though

Seriously though, the upside to having this tune-up game this week is that it's almost like a fresh start to the season. Most teams have theirs in weeks 1 and 2. If they're thinking about switching to DW, this is the perfect time to do it.

Give all 3 one quarter to show what they can do.

Best performer gets 4th quarter and start against IU.

I suppose, like everyone else, Mac goes to DaJon for #1 and #2.

Is it really worthy of discussion who later gets sent in for mop up duty?

I think we let Dajon have the entire first half to show what he can do with the first team. If he has a good first half he should play the third for more game experience. Greer and McNulty in the 4th

I agree with you as usual but to an extent. However, for me, if DW does what I believe he can do. Burn the boats or Cross the Rubicon. Whatever expression blows your hair back. Go with DW to the bloody end. We are 1/4 through the 2014 season. Get him reps ASAP in a live fire entertainment. The others have been weighed, judged, and found wanting. In 2015 let Means take his job if he's up to the task. Edited by UNTexas

Buy really.... The idea behind this thread is like the worst idea ever... Right?

It's absolutely a stupid thread. There is zero reason for a competition. Two QBs have proven they have absolutely no place as a starter on a D1 field. Edited by UNTexas

Honestly, there wasn't enough to show anyone that he knew the playoff. I would agree that he would be on the unintelligent side if he didn't, but berglund couldn't grasp the offense, so it doesn't seem totally outside of the realm of possibility.

I assume that he does know the offense, but you were talking in absolutes, so I was just wondering.

Berglund's problem had nothing to do with knowing the play book.

At all. Period. Take it to the bank.

Coaches may not be happy with Dajon's reads in practice. But what is quite obvious is that Greer doesn't make the same reads in the game that he makes in practice, when he doesn't have to worry about stepping into a 300lbs defensive tackle to deliver the football. He has yet to do that in live action. Dajon did it on the long sideline pass. Told me right then he needs to start.

Some guys play better in games than practice. See Johnny Football, who only got his shot because of an injury. The rest was history.

I'm not saying Dajon is Manzell. We don't know what Dajon is, but we know what Greer is, and that is a guy that isn't ready to QB an FBS football team.

Worse than continuing to let Greer run the offense without giving anyone else a chance to start?

I get the one mans misfortune is another mans opportunity analogy but Manziel won his starting job in fall practice and started ATM's first game of the 2012 season. Just throwing it out there. But yeah, this is DW's opportunity.

It isn't a stupid idea. I think it wouldn't be a bad idea... however, I feel we have had an adequate 'try out' for Greer. I would much rather give DW 2-3 quarters and give mcnulty the rest if we aren't seeing much. Though, we will see enough to feel confident he is the guy here on out barring injury.

Thank you my friend. Basically the thought behind this concept is Greer has always faced the tope level team defense. If you split it up perhaps you might be able to give all three a shot. I believe that DW is the GUy..read my practice reports if you aren't sure about this. My point is this is a game that gives you the opprtUnity to prove yourself...it's fair -- it will help. Let's develop team unity behind whomever earns the job...

Yeah, DW hasn't played against a full defense of 1's. So he should get the start to how he does. Bc in this game whoever gets the start is going to roll. Since DW is obviously our best option give him the start to boost his confidence and get his teammates fully behind him. Then the team will have 2 weeks to prepare for Indiana behind a guy they trust.

Well, so much for third grade level humor.

Seriously though, Dajon needs all the repititions that he can get and this Nichols game appears to be an excellent training opportunity for him. We've got an off next week and then a game at Indiana a week before conference play resumes. This is an excellent chance to transition to the new quarterback.

Hopefully Dajon will be in sync with his receivers by the UAB game and North Texas can resume it's quest for another bowl game.

Problem is, this is a crap opponent. All 3 may look like world beaters.

And you can't do something like this against a good opponent.

That's the exact moment I said to my wife, "He has to be the starter next game."
