DW and the extra time till Nicholls St.

He reminds me of Scott Hall.

I am not saying he will come in and have a UNT HOF career, but here are the similarities I do see:

  • Not as tall as their coaches think is ideal, but height is vastly over rated at the college level.
  • Not the strongest arm, but accurate enough to leverage the threat of a good running game to drop passes in between coverage at multiple levels.
  • Not going to set any track records, but can use their feet to avoid pressure WHILE CONTINUING TO LOOK DOWNFIELD and find open men once the coverage breaks down.
  • Calm. I can't overstate this. The game never looked way to fast for Scott Hall, and it doesn't for DW. They may get fooled, but they aren't in a near panic making rushed decisions.

In addition: Scott Hall wasn't a loud vocal leader when he came in. Once the burden was placed on his shoulders he began taking a more active role and by the time he was a senior everyone know whose team it was. Again, he wasn't a rah rah cheerleader, but he was calm in the eye of the storm and his team mates took comfort from that.

I don't know if DW will develop the same way, but his demeanor is such I think there is a chance. At this point, when we run 26 plays for 26 yards, what does it hurt to try?

Sort of agree on the Scott Hall comparison, but I think he has a much better arm.

The only downside would be if we are all wrong about Greer, kind of like many of us were on DT. If Greer turns into DT or close to it, then we can have our bowl eligible season an Mac doesn't have to change his QB which so far he hasn't wanted to.

Something I just thought of that perhaps makes a change more likely is what Mac did in the offseason. He kept saying how he knew that the team had to show they were a program and not a flash in the pan. That if you win 9 games then follow that up with a flop every one will write it off. Well, that means that he put himself in the position of having to have little patience for a terrible offense thus far.

I'll have to admit I was wrong on the height. I don't think he is an elite G5 arm or wheel guy. I didn't think Scott Hall was either, but he had the Joe Cool calm, and I think Dajon does too. He also knows to keep his head up and look downfield when he runs.

I'll take those over a rocket arm and 4.4 speed every time.

So you will take those over Brock Berglund?

Greer's first three games:

2-11 8YDS 0TD 2INT

9-12 86YDS 0TD 0INT

13-27 77YDS 0TD 0INT

---

24-50 171YDS 0TD 2INT

Please show me where DT ever had a three game streak this bad. 3.4 yards per attempt? Greer just isn't ready this year. The coaches like something in him. He might be ready in the future. Let him learn on the bench.

Greer's NCAA QB Rating is 68.7.

To give you some perspective, in the NFL, his rating would be a 39.6.

FWIW, DT's first 2 seasons while playing sparingly. Remember that final game in 2009 ? DT actually showed some flash early on and impressed. It is just the opposite from what we have seen from our QB's not named Dajon.

2010:
• Played in three games and started one before falling to injury
• Threw for 83 yards on 11-of-18 passing with one interception and no touchdowns
• Ran six times for 17 yards
• Completed all three of his pass attempts and gained 29 through the air against Clemson
• Threw for 43 yards and ran for 13 more at Army
• Completed two of four passes for 11 yards against Rice

2009:
• Played in the season finale against Arkansas State and led North Texas on a 68-yard touchdown drive in the final minute of the game • Threw for 60 yards and one touchdown and was three-for-three passing

I agree with you. I thought while he wasn't very good against SMU, that maybe he gained some confidence and we'd see something last night. I'd agree what we saw was that he isn't ready. I also totally agree with this thread you started. This is the perfect time to hand over the keys to Dajon. It's basically a 3 week training camp with a scrimmage in the middle.

It's actually a month till the next conference game. A MONTH.

I know I keep bumping this thread but this is a golden chance and if the coaches refuse to take advantage of it then that decision should be on their heads.

ETA:

Next conference game is

@UAB

Sat, Oct 11th

and it's looking like that game will be tougher than originally thought, so if we roll Greer out there and he dismantles Nicholls (which would not be shocking), and we get throttled at Indiana, but everyone chalks it up to "hey, it's a B1G team with a high-powered offense!", and no change is made, then I would not be surprised to lose @ UAB, badly.

The way the QB thing has played out has actually surprised me, but I guess it shouldn't have. We benched our two starting corners last year after the Georgia game and that worked out pretty well. The staff has shown a willingness to change. What has surprised me is they keep changing everybody.

If you're an Optimist - McNulty didn't play so DW is clearly close to claiming the job.

Pessimist - DW didn't get into the game until it was so late that we're stuck with Greer.

I think Greer will get the nect start, struggle and DW will come in much sooner leading the team to a big victory and claim the job.

The next start is against Nicholls State, an fcs team who have lost by a combined 24-117 in their first two games. If we have to have anyone lead a come back to win that game we are in a lot more trouble than I thought.

I looked up Josh's stats at Navarro. I know that this was just JC competition. But, it does show that he can complete passes with moving objects present. Did the Texas game completely shred his confidence ?

http://stats.njcaa.org/sports/fball/2013-14/players/joshgreer8vcz?view=gamelog

He completed 63% of his passes for 7.6 yds/att

haha, yeah I didn't mean to imply we would be trailing just that we'd be lackluster, kind of like the SMU game. That game was 3-0 after 1 and close till mid 2nd Q.
