Holy shit. What? Celebrate cotton with a blackout? How did nobody think this through?

Well, their colors are red & black, and they probably don't want to wear red since they're playing Arkansas... oh, nevermind... this is just not thought through very well at all.

Of course, we are talking about Texas Tech here, not the brightest bunch.

To kinda sorta defend them since my brother is a TT engineering grad... Lubbock didn't exist until 1876. The region wasn't even lightly settled before the civil war. No slaves ever picked cotton in the area, which became a major cotton producer after the civil war. Tech has had these blackout games before, and they have had the cotton growers assoc sponsor Celebrate Cotton games before...

it's just a little silly to group them together.

ETA: I don't think anyone is ACTUALLY offended by this... but is everyone going to make fun of Tech for it? YESH.

I saw this on Slate the other day and thought it was no big deal.

1) The team's color is black, and they usually do a black out every year.

2) Cotton Week is an annual celebration in the Lubbock area.

I don't believe there is any racial animus in this promotion. It's just an unfortunate coincidence.

Well yeah nobody is calling for the AD's head or anything. It's just a boneheaded move by the marketing department. Especially in an age where information can spread like wildfire.

No doubt. It's definitely lol worthy. I just hope they don't change it because some people are bitching.

TT is pretty hard headed. If they can live in Lubbock they can put up with a few people laughing on the internet.

This is what marketing is all about, people. We need to follow in Tech's footsteps.

Since we may see a low turnout for Nicholls State, here's what I propose:

Wow. When we went to Lubbock for Moot Court, one guy (Guy)'s ex-girlfriend went to Tech and was supposedly going to have all of her sorority sisters over. We got to her house and the only people who were there were the pregnant ex-girlfriend, three rednecks with shaved heads, and a crying drunk redhead in a wheelchair. We went over by the fire with another friend (Rob) carrying all of our beers, and the rednecks were giggling and throwing stuff into the fire. As we sat down, I made a comment about all of them having the same haircut and they carried out the same creepy redneck laugh and said, "Yup, we hate [slur]s." I don't think our butts even touched down before we stood back up and walked away. Rob hadn't even gotten the case of beer on the ground. Very small case study, I know, but really, if you've ever been there...it wouldn't be a huge surprise to find out that somebody did it on purpose and then later claimed it was a completely innocent mistake when questioned.

This was the same trip where we went to the Board of Barristers reception after making it into the upper rounds and one of their Barristers asked us what it would take to get some of us to go to Tech's law school. I asked if law students had access to drinking water that didn't taste like manure, and I guess the dude was so shocked that somebody would say that he was like, "Um...I don't know." So I was like, "Yeah, then I don't really see many of us being interested in coming back here, sorry." My Moot Court partner was horrified and I was like, "What, were you going to ever consider going to school here?" And he said, "Well, no..."

"Exactly."
