Any sort of recognition along these lines will not come until NT consistantly beats teams from any of the P5 conferences. Look at what happened in week 1 against UT and SMU vs BU. In the public's eye, NT is still right there with SMU......

Until we give P5 schools significant challenges we won't be a 'big' boy. I don't mind being a medium sized boy.

So we play at Tennessee and at Florida in '15 and '16. Those seem like good opportunities to level up in perception.

The G-5 have-not conferences “should go ahead and move to the spring just like the USFL did.”

Oh, that's a nice reminder of what Jones said earlier this year.

Well, you know what this "have-not" school doesn't have? A failure of a coach.

When was the last time we could say that.

Those "body bag" games are about to become "opportunity" games.

And at Iowa in 2015. Don't forget we have 2 "opportunity" games that year...

But ya, until we beat someone that matters or obtain a national ranking, not even close.

The extra pub of being the team that ended Jones's career at SMU is good for the program, though, especially in recruiting.

I've come to realize that the only G5 schools that get decent exposure nationally are the ones who have several wins over P5 teams. Unfortunately, that deck is stacked big time against 99% of the G%. You play mostly road games and then hope to get a home game every once in a while against a P5 team. A team like ULM, which has beaten Alabama, Arkansas, and Wake Forest, while losing close battles against Baylor and Auburn in the last 7 years, yet they are just looked at as a smalltime program.

Beating a P5 school doesn't itself get a G5 school good exposure. It's consistent winning and showing up in bowl games they aren't supposed to be in. That was the case for Utah, Boise State, TCU, Louisville, etc. That statue of liberty play against Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl made Boise State.

No doubt--then they followed it up with wins over Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Georgia, Virginia Tech, and TCU in the Fiesta Bowl.

But even with that, they are probably just about finished as the little darling that they were. The G5 status just kills that national perception going forward, especially if we cannot play the P5s anymore, as they keep talking about occurring soon.

I think some folks are taking the title of the thread too seriously. . . . It's just a funny observation of Kevin Sherrington's quote, which could be taken as including us, but actually does not include us--he seems to include us as one of the "have-nots" later in the article.
