UT didn't have Ash against BYU. Different team without him.

I do agree that there are still a lot of unknowns. SMU's QB situation is as bad or worse than ours. There were many plays that SMU QB's had all day to throw. Do that against Skocol and he will make you pay.

But, think we are much better defensively than on offense at this point.

La. Tech will give us a better barometer.

Not only did the not have Ash, they didn't have 3 starting OL either. UT's O wasn't impressive though to be honest, even against us. Give a real blue blood 4 picks and we'd be begging for the beating to stop.

I've seen quite a few comments blaming the 11am start time and lots of people couldn't come out because of commitments from kid events etc. People have had months to plan their schedules around 1 game. To me that isn't a good excuse.

You don't have kids, do you?

It shouldn't matter. Everyone has issues, different reasons why they can or can't make a game (and kids are absolutely a valid reason).

My point is this: There are over 270k people in the metromess alone (alum + students + the six or seven casual t-shirt fans in Denton) that have ties to UNT. So while some people have kids, work, etc... you're only asking for a little over TEN PERCENT of those people, in some combination, to show up week in and week out... and that doesn't include those who come in from out of town (like myself).

So when you figure all that + the insanely low cost of tickets, it's actually quite pathetic we've still not yet managed a sell out.

Paraphrasing what untjim said, we had (being generous) 12 years where we 'didn't have football' (1-AA). If you count it all the way up to DD's first NO bowl, that's 18 years. 12-18 years of a very tiny percentage of students from that period who still follow the program and a tiny percentage of people who graduated before that period who continued to follow the program.

Then add in the last couple DD and all Dodge years. That's 6 more years of awful football that did no favors in building or retaining a fan base. So in the past 32 years, 18-24 of those years (and honestly probably more) there was very little to build/retain a fanbase. If you think about that for a second, that means that roughly 75% of anyone who attended UNT in the past 32 years had no reason to be fans of the program while they were attending. That's 75% of anyone in DFW with UNT ties who are 50 years old or younger.

I do think we can build a fanbase, but it's not hard to see how we lost so many potential fans.

I'm sorry, but I don't think our defense has proven themselves yet. Is our defense good, or are the 2 offenses we've played so far just horrible? As of right now, I think it's more the latter. UT scored 1 TD against BYU this last week.......one. And SMU has scored 6 points total in 2 games.

I think the jury should deliberate on our defense for another 2 games then reach a verdict.

I thought there was well over 22k, could be that 1k were waiting in the long beer lines.

This was almost prophetic. It became clear to me....and to La Tech....that we have no pass defense. Run defense I like, but when they opened up the throwing game we had nothing.

Pretty good turnout for a Thursday game. I predict we will win 3 more games this season.
