Phoenix DJ on UTSA

I've been wary of UTSA since before last season, but I figured some of you would get a kick out of this, since you feel the same way.

Mike Holmberg, of 97.9 KUPD, said:

"Well, at least tomorrow we get football with real schools again. U of A almost had their prom dance ruined by Texas-San Antonio; I've never even heard of them! It's not a real school, they don't even exist. They borrowed some uniforms that somebody's mom stitched together last week."

How does Mike Holmberg have the opportunity to talk sports radio and has never heard of a FBS program? Apparently he is not fully doing his job.

It's just a normal morning show on the rock station; they talk about all kinds of stuff and were going over the weekend's sports offerings. I'm sure U of H people aren't laughing quite as much.

Is he in Phoenix or Tucson? There's a big difference as Phoenix/Tempe is the home of UA's arch rivals ASU. If he's in Phoenix, this is like an Austin DJ commenting on an OU game - they are going to make them look as bad as possible!

When I see a reference to "U of A", the first several that comes to mind would not even include Arizona.

Just sayin' they are not exactly Prime Time themselves.

Arizona is in the Pac 12 and was in the Pac 10. The league became the Pac 10 when Arizona and ASU joined the Pac 8. If "U of A" isn't even familiar to our own dedicated fans, obviously schools in the admittedly lessor Mountain West Conference are going to be even less known among fans here in Texas. Comments like this are exactly why we shouldn't be jumping to join the MWC unless there are a number of Central Time Zone teams included!

Because, when someone hears "U of A" he first thinks of Arkansas before Arizona, we shouldn't join the MWC?

Makes perfect sense.

When we're given the choice of joining the SEC or the Pac-however many, then that question might actually become relevant.

But for the more likely and more immediate future, how about asking whether people would rather be in a football conference with Boise State and Fresno State or Florida International and UNC-Charlotte?

Hey Mike. Did I win the tix? No? K Well first off I LOVE the show but I had a bone to pick with you, man. First off let me tell you that UTSA is a real school with real students and Zona is gonna really do some things in the PAC-12 this year. First off DBacks had a nice series and my Cards might be able to do something's with this Palmer guy. First off wanted to get your thoughts on this Anu kid. I'll hang up and listen.

Oh sure they do! They're a back entrance for people who couldn't get into UT-Austin the first go-'round. If you can fill out an application, their 83% acceptance rate says you've got a great future ahead of you as a Roadrunner!

UTEP has a 99% acceptance rate. UTSA looks great next to that number.
