MGB: UNT press conference notes

I think you see either DW or Means starting against SMU. If either or both flop (a distinct possibility), this thing turns into a mess for the rest of the year.

I hope you are right! About DW or Means starting. Greer and McNulty lost the job. If either starts then this teams coaching staff is clueless :/

Is there any history here or at Iowa State that suggests McCarney is willing to do something wild with the roster to shake things up?

I'm inclined to say no and he'll stick to Greer/McNulty, but something obviously happened at ISU that made him okay with Seneca.

Well last season he did compare DW (at least in terms of potential) to one of Iowa States premier QB's, so he does understand what a talented QB can do if they set their mind to doing it.

Not really. They are in a bad state. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. Now, if you wanna say they put themselves here by not recruiting better/smarter at QB, I might agree.

But any decision they make at this point is going to be considered wrong by a lot of fans, and maybe even some of the players.

It's a really tough spot for Mac or Chico or whoever decides who QBs the Mean Green.

I am still solidly in the give Dajon a chance camp. Regardless of how hard he practices or how many plays he knows he could not have done any worse than Greer and McNulty. People said the same thing about Michael Vick and he found a way to be successful.

I rather have 12 good plays under Dajon than 40 terrible plays under Greer. I guess this coaching stuff is in the camp of bulk over substance.

It's not enong it up if you want to choose between Greer (terrible) and McNulty (atrocious). If that means Dajon will be given equal play time then it is a true open QB competition. Here is too hoping Dajon gets at least a few offensive sets comes Saturday.

I would certainly hope the "open competition" is over before Saturday. They need to figure out in the next couple of days who they're going to go with on Saturday.

I know I'm treading in shark infested waters here, but here's my theory. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the depth chart was this coming into the UT games:

(1) Greer

(2) Mcnulty

(3) Means (with possibility of redshirt)

(4) Williams

I say this because of spring game, who was getting snaps at scrimmages, etc. if this is the case you could see the dilemma they had at UT. If Williams was our next QB after Greer and Mcnulty then yes, just let him play. But with Means there are other considerations: burning his red shirt, possibly shaking the confidence of your young up and coming QB.. Maybe Means is blocking Williams from playing so to speak because if push comes to shove they want to see what he can do before they play Williams. I'm sure the depth chart can change and I may be wrong (more often than not I am), but that's how I see it.
