look, I understand the argument for a more revved up offense... but I like the attempt to keep the power game alive... it makes you unique, which in turn makes other teams have to get out of there regularly scheduled pre-game plans and gameplan specifically to stop us...

it also is a big help to the Defense... getting that extra rest time and staying fresh helped our D last year when we started to get rolling...

the last argument i have for it is that, Mac has got us winning... and I'll take the vanilla offense over the let's go crazy style anyday...

it might not allow us to beat the big boys yet, but if we continue to play our style (and win), TE, FB, RB and OL recruits are going to want to come here, along with Defenses...

those are my 2 cents, try not to spend it all in one place

I'm aware of what Mac likes to do. Managed correctly a system like atm's is deadly. Macs style is never, ever going to put away a power, ever. The powers have the bigs to keep our O at bay. I'm not referring to the air raid, I'm referring to making dink and dunk passing as an extension of your running game. Put your guys in space and see if the D can tackle in open space. Apparently SC can't.,

Probably true on putting away a "power". I think its a big reason why we haven't taken down a top 25 in the dickey years or Mac. However, i don't want to be LaMo either. They have beaten and few big schools, but then lose conference and no bowling for them. Its more important for us to be able to have winning seasons and get to bowls as frequently as possible. I would rather build towards being able to compete with bigger schools consistently than win every once in awhile with a tricked up system that doesn't help us win consistently in conference and against other mid majors.

With the Mac style (and some degree Dickey), we can beat the teams we need to beat if we recruit the right way. Thats the big difference between Dickey and Mac. See how many big O lineman we have brought in that can play at a high level by any standard. Not only is our starting line really good, we are also very deep.

The Gators were running a spread (read option driven, but still a spread) when they won it all last time. Muschamp shows up and goes to a pro style and goes from SEC defense to Big 12 and the Gators begin to suck.

You can throw the ball and win. You almost always have to when you are trying to punch above your weight class.

Winning > Losing, but there is more than one way to go about doing it.

This.

Hill had a redshirt year to sit and learn the offense. That is a huge difference.

He graduated SLC in May/June2013 and he's a sophomore this year, so I don't think he's a redshirt.

My point is that the only way to be taken seriously nationally is to beat p5's and beat then consistently, not all the time, but consistently. We can't do that in this offense. Let's do our thing in conference play, that's great, but running in place is going to get us approximately nowhere in the big picture. 7 yards last year versus Georgia, I don't want to watch 7 more tomorrow night.

We don't have to run the air raid. Just wish we were more creative and threw the ball a tad more. Especially on 1st down. Those quick throws to the flat like Ken Hill was throwing last night are safe and effective. Basically a run.

Kenny Hill threw for a school record 511 yards last night versus SC. He had 22 career pass attempts going into this game, tonight he had 60. 44/60 to be exact. My point is that a practical brand new QB stepped in and outperformed his predecessor. Could we see the same thing for us this season (not 511 yards, but an improvement at QB).

On a side note..just goes to show that ATM (Sumlin) has an offensive system in place that allows whatever QB they plug in to have success. I wish that Mac would wipe the cobwebs away from his brow and take notice of what a system such as this can do.

We'll never have a winning record or go to a bowl game if Mac doesn't copy Kevin Sumlin...

...oh, wait:

Hell yes. HELL YES. Very well put. A picture is worth 1,000 words.

You can't argue with a 9 win season, a bowl trophy, and a sweet sense of fashion.

Not quite what I was saying Lonnie Finch. If we want to compete with the UT's of the worlds a 2 TE set on O is going to do nothing for us. Hell, it might get us embarrassed in this 12 year SMwho series in the future. If you're not changing with the times you'll get left behind. I'm not trying to say we need to go 5 wide or throw 60 times a game, but this vanilla O that Mac has been rolling with here at UNT is not going to turn into prolonged success. We had that success last year bc of an outstanding D. It's hard to recruit capable big bodies, and that's what it takes to maintain this.

What we need to compete with the UTs of the world is hundreds of millions of dollars. T. Boone Pickens stepped up and bought Oklahoma State competitiveness.

Who will be our T. Boone Pickens?

Otherwise, schools can win running or throwing. This has been discussed before. We could run in 100 times. We could throw it 100 times. I just don't give a crap.

As long as we are winning, I don't care what MacCanales' offensive philosophy is.

Look in the past. G5s made noise because they were able to throw the ball. Like I said, it's the great equalizer. Passing, as well as gimmick plays. The non-BCS programs that made noise on a national level all had 3000+ yard and 25+ touchdown qbs. Guys like Kellen Moore, Alex Smith, Andy Dalton, even Jared Zabransky and Brian Johnson.

Like I said earlier as well, all 3 of our offensive touchdowns against the big national powers under Coach Mac (Alabama, LSU, Georgia) have been passing tds. 0 rushing tds. Those teams also have all scored more than 40 against us. It's hard to line up and run the ball down these teams' throats, and shut them down when we're on D.

In the 07 fiesta bowl when Boise State beat OU they were able to score 43 points (6 tds, including 1 in OT). They had 1 rushing TD, from a back who had over 20 that year. They passed for 4 tds, including 1 on a reverse pass and 1 on a hook and ladder. They also had a pick six. They won the game on a Statue of Liberty. They didn't line up and pound the ball on OU, or completely shut them down. That was one of the best non-BCS teams of the BCS era, with a 20+ TD running back and an NFL offensive lineman. They scored mainly on pass plays and gimmick plays. They did run the ball well to move it down field, but the pass plays got them in the endzone.

I think we have a line and backs that are good enough to move the ball. I think our d is good enough to keep this Texas offense in check. But we're still going to need to score at least 3 or 4 offensive tds. We're going to need a big day passing, especially for TDs, if we are to win this. Thank The Lord this game is tomorrow.

I'm not sure how a power conference school winning against other power conference schools is relavent

Do you think a boring, ground and pound team like Stanford beating an Air Raid school like Todd Graham's Arizona State Sun Devils by 24 points is relevant?

We're not going to compete with Texas, OU, and the like. That ship sailed in 1983. Some of you are still standing at the dock waiting for it to return.

Until one of us gets a fat wallet like T. Boone Pickens, be happy with a coach who can take the players that will come here and turn them into a winning unit.

EVERYONE KNOWS that the best and most effective way to hunt and kill a unicorn is with a high powered rifle. I don't care how accurate you are, bow hunting is just an insane and worthless strategy.

Until we change our whole philosophy on hunting, we're never going to be able to fill our freezer with sweet, sweet unicorn meat.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think he's saying UNT & Stanford are not on the same level. Stanford is a P5 school with a rich football history.... same with Wisconsin and other B1G schools that are old-school, power football teams. Hard to compare them to UNT, although the styles of play are similar.

Precisely.

Now, just set The Wayback Machine to 1983, and we'll get that unicorn meat!

Are we going back in time to scatter Unicorn feed?

Because I'm sick and tired of them not coming to my backyard so I can kill them from the comfort of my own home.
