Remind me again why we love the Dodges so much

Talk to Southlake folks some time. The story there was that "North Texas just ruined his legacy".

What do any of those morons have to do with the man himself?

Further, what does it have to do with Riley's tweet? I thought it was pretty tame, to-be-expected, actually. He could have said something like "Man I hated my time at UNT and wished I never went there. Gonna hang 100 on them. #hookem". But I doubt he ever would.

TD was a horrible head coach. Jumped in the deep end of the pool with a concussion.

But, he's part of the history of the program (very recently), so some people (myself included) find it interesting to see what he's up to now. NO ONE is clamoring for him to come back, or that his firing was a mistake. I don't even follow his teams now, just interesting to know where he's at now.

That's one guy Mack Brown would have been right about moving to defensive back. Probably would have had a nice career there at safety.

Off the field, the Dodges were, and are, nice people. Cussers, no. But, they wasted a hell of a lot of our time sticking him in at quarterback here.

Glad McCarney and Canales have made the turnaround for us. Just...a lot of work was left to do after Dodge left - on and off the field.

WTF are you talking about? Don't remember Todge ever bad mouthing the school or the program. Quite the opposite. My memory might be failing, but if you could offer examples of his "no win scenario" quotes. I'd obliged to change my mind.

Dodge never said anything like that. He was truly classy as a coach could be as the ship sank, unlike his predecessor, who thought Hutch Black Jersey Night and stealing tvs from the AD after he left was fine...

Look, Todge sucked as a coach here--no doubt about it. But don't make $hit up just because you're bitter that the BOR and AD felt that he would be a great "value" when he got hired. If it weren't for him bringing up the fact that he was promised a new stadium when he got hired and that he kept pushing that promise so that the university wouldn't back down, Apogee probably isn't here right now. The BOR had to follow through when the SGA got it passed (miraculously, I will add...)

And before this turns into a Dickey vs Dodge pillow fight, I've always been clear that neither of those guys were what this place needed as a head coach. McCarney truly fits that description, just like Fry did. Shockingly, they are the only two head coaches we have hired in 40 years that actually had been head coaches at the college level. I just hope that Mac doesn't get bought off by a P5 school to turn around a moribund program as his last rebuilding project. Kansas, Colorado, or Illinois all come to mind...

I think Mac is in the coaching sweet spot. He's made enough money to not need a payday. He's old enough for starting over to not be super-appealing. This situation is good enough for him. It's challenging, but there is enough here (and will be coming here) to be successful. He can build something in Denton and leave a legacy -- he'll be in the pantheon forever and always. Maybe Mattress Mac will buy him a practice field to bear Danny Mac's name.

Jim is right - we have no one to blame but ourselves for underfunding the program, not upgrading facilities not paying coaches salaries etc. When we moved back to IA it was all about maximizing exposure on the cheap.

The reason we are seeing success right now is directly tied to the investment we are making to be successful.
