I "tapped on the pictures" and suggest Untlynchka "tap on the brakes" as to what, if any conclusion those captions mean.

Ok, I went back to and read both again several times. I guess they both are rather ambiguous, but it was poorly written from a major publication. It is a little easy to interpret it however you'd like.

From my interpretation, it said mcnulty competed for the right to earn the starting job, and for Greer it said that he competed throughout spring for the "opportunity". Just saying both of you guys could have explained how you interpreted it. Instead, unt90 decided he was just gonna completely dismiss it because he never misreads anything, and you had to put the "touch the screen" comment. Sorry, but most people read this sight on phones or tablets now. I wasn't trying to be condescending at all.

Either way still seems like either poor or leading wording whether intentional or not.

It's been implied all along that the job was McNulty's to lose. I'd say Greer was competing for the job when the pic was taken. Their obviously been tight lipped as to who the starter is because we are 8 days until kick off. The coaches have to know. If anyone weremember to watch practice right now they'd know. The starters reps are going to go through the roof this week.

Even if the QB spots story just got broken its not as if we didn't expect this. McNulty is familiar with the system and almost-de-facto since he's been DT's understudy for however many years. Greer has the next highest level of experience, isn't as injury-prone as Williams, and seems to fit the pocket-passer mold our staff collectively prefers.

I'm sure that #3 and #4 are Williams and Means, respectively.

if McNulty is starter will be disappointed, but not surprised, he has had 3 yrs to be starter and rarely saw the field and when he did he was a turnover machine.

I'm not so sure about that. There are some signs that Means may have passed up Williams in the coaches' eyes. That said, if Means stays at #3 or lower, and at least one of the #1 or #2 QBs stays reasonably healthy, Williams will see the field before Means to keep Means' redshirt on.

Yeah, I think the coaches will want to preserve the redshirt as much as possible. Barring a season-ending injury to someone, I think means keeps his redshirt.

I think it would have to be injuries to several someones and be on track for a bowl game. We have several guys on the roster that could step in if the season were not going well and allow for Means' RS to stay.

A coach that allows almost zero access to NT practice is not going to name a starter till the last minute. No use giving UT advanced notice, let them prepare for both. Not a major thing, and I am sure UT has watched every available film on both, but it does complicate their defense schemes a little.
