DENTON — Sheldon Wade, a senior who transferred to UNT from Austin Peay, is in position to start at safety in place of departed All-Conference USA selection Marcus Trice, head coach Dan McCarney said Tuesday.

Really proud of this guy. He would have received a lot of bigger school scholarships but he only played football his senior year.

He ended up at Austin Peay and was a two year starter there. Great comeback story and I can see him having a good year for us.

"Named starter" is a little strong for what I read here. "He is [still] competing with JUCO transfer Matthew Dash to start the Mean Green’s season-opener at Texas."

He does appear to have a leg up, though.
