Cable vs. Online watching options - anyone?

As happy as I am that every game is televised this year, it's hard to know what will be broadcast nationally and what will be bumped regionally. I'm trying to figure out if Fox has an online option like CBS and ESPN do but I don't see anything on their site. Does anybody know anything about this? If the games are available on TV then we're good but if not I'd like to have a backup option so that I can get it on my laptop and hook it up to a TV. That's how we were able to get the MUTS game last season but that was on the CBS one.

Also...what's "ASN"?

I kept looking and found part of the answer. There's an app you can download called "Fox Sports Go" that streams but it only tells you what you can stream for the current TV week (Monday through Sunday). For those of us trying to plan watch parties, that sucks because 5 days isn't much notice to give the average person. Also if you don't have the newest tech that uses apps, for instance an older laptop, that isn't any help because unlike ULive or ESPN3, it doesn't run through a website. So if anybody knows of additional ways to watch please help...and still not sure what "ASN" is.

Is that for sure the one they're broadcasting our stuff on? When I googled it, there were like 3 or 4 different sports networks that all had the same initials. I figured it wasn't the Asian Sports Network but thought it might also have been the All Sports Network and I think there might have even been another one.

Yep, that's definitely the one.

Weird that I can't find an actual site for them, but if you look up press releases it looks like it's in conjunction with a few stations including the CW...so we'll be on after Smallville and Gossip Girl re-runs?

From the Longhorn Network site...dated 8/14/14:

Beginning today, fans of the University of Texas who receive Longhorn Network as part of their video subscription will receive live access to the network on WatchESPN across computers, smartphones and tablets. Fans across the US can now log into WatchESPN.com and download an update to the WatchESPN app for iOS and Android devices with their provider log-in credentials to access the network on digital platforms in the home and on the go.

Texas fans who previously visited the Longhorn Network app to view a simulcast of the network will now receive a message redirecting them to the WatchESPN app for live access to the network. Affiliated providers for authenticated access to Longhorn Network on WatchESPN currently include AT&T U-verse, Charter, Consolidated Communications, Cox, DISH, Google Fiber, Grande Communications and Verizon FiOS.

With the addition of Longhorn Network, plus SEC Network and SEC Network +, WatchESPN is now the live streaming home for 10 ESPN networks, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Goal Line/Buzzer Beater/Bases Loaded, ESPN Deportes, ESPNEWS and ESPN3.

in my experience, if you're streaming off your computer you should be able to just go to ESPN3.com...the game will be listed, but will require a log-in from one of the above listed service providers. If you don't use one of those service providers, ask around and see if someone will lend you their log-in information.

I just went to 8/30 on ESPN3 and the game is listed.

Yeah, I posted the watchespn.com stuff for the UT game a while back, even if something happens and it is blacked out on espn3 a lot of cable providers are part of the Watch ESPN agreement and you can stream it. The issue is with the CBS, ASN, and FSN ones since so many of those tend to be region-by-region. Hopefully we'll go undefeated and that will put us at the top of the list in terms of coverage...wouldn't that be a nice byproduct?

Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone else cut the cord with Uverse Fios Cable Dish etc to go streaming and if so can you do that if you are a college football fan and survive? The amount that Uverse charges me is getting ridiculous and I may be able to convince myself to bail on them but worry about not getting my fill of college football.

Curently, none of those streaming services offer access to anyone who doesn't already pay for cable.

To get access to WatchESPN (except for a few free things they put up) or HBOGO, etc, you have to have an account with a cable company and you use those cable company credentials to login to the app.

Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu etc don't have any live sports on them.

There are often 3rd party streams available online but most are hit or miss

Just for further clarification:

I have an internet account with AT&T, but no TV. I can go to WatchESPN.com and see listed the entirety of ESPN and all of its "sub" networks, but the only events I can actually watch on my PC are the ones streamed via ESPN3.

A game that is only on ESPN, for someone wanting to see via watchESPN.com, will require login credentials associated with your TV provider.

The UT game appears to be only on the Longhorn Network, and I'm just going to anticipate that in my case I will not be able to watch it.

I only enable the "college sports package" on FIOS for football season. Then I have them cut it off.

I did that for awhile, but I basically had to go somewhere any time I wanted to watch a game. Netflix is great, but until they carry live sports, the cables/dishes/fioses of the world will still have a place.
