Well this coming Saturday is the mock Texas walk-through so you would think they would want to have the guy named this week.

Is anyone else starting to think perhaps part of the strategy is to make it harder for Texas to know who to prepare for? Of course since neither one has played significantly in our system there is not much film etc out there anyway...

There is no game film. Texas is elite. And, in these games, the Criminal 5 schools usually go vanilla anyway.

Texas has a tough schedule, beginning right after our game, with BYU and UCLA the two weekends after us. Then a bye week, a weak Kansas game. Then, opening October with reigning Big 12 champ Baylor and Oklahoma back-to-back.

Texas problem isn't what we are doing...it's hoping their (remaining) players can execute what Strong and his coaches have tried to get them to learn since the spring.

As thin as they are as some important positions, I highly doubt the 'Horns want to show BYU and UCLA's coaching staffs many exotic wrinkles on film. Those guy - and, I hope ours - are looking at Louisville and Oklahoma State tape to figure out what Strong and his coordinators might do.

Then congrats Josh Greer! Reppin Arlington.

I've never wanted to be more wrong about anything for as long as I can remember. If Mini-Mac's not the guy I'll be turning cartwheels.

Reasons it will be Greer:

- If their talent level is about equal right now and Greer just got here in Spring... it will be Greer since he shows more upside.

- He gets playing time with the expectation that he could play for 3 years

- He is Chico's recruit..................twice. People that think Mac runs the O are wrong. Mac just doesn't want a no-huddle offense that scores within 1 min each drive.

- While Mini-Mac has shown some things in practice to warrant consideration.... his gameday history stacks against him,

I would hope Mac would be fine with an offense that scored within one minute of touching the ball...

Just sayin...

Why would any coach not want an offense that works "too well"?

I think the point was taking some time and scoring is generally better than quickly scoring in the long run. Wears out their D, rests our D.

That's assuming it isn't a perfect score literally every possession kind of thing.

Yes and that running the ball (which some on here hate) actually helps the defense. See the Dallas Cowboys.

No one hates the run. Some just wished the run/pass ratio on 1st down was more even.

Yes, a more even ratio might be better, but it's more complicated than that. Field position has an impact on play choice. And from mid-third quarter on, the score has an impact on choice. If you are ahead, make the game end faster while keeping the ball generally means more runs. The harm of a turnover inside either 20 is much worse.

So now you are talking first downs between the 20s during the first 2.5 quarters of the game. That's a much smaller sample size and one that does show up as its own category on a stat sheet. That is where we should be balanced and frankly I have no idea if we actually are or not.

I agree that it can slow the game down. I am all for a balanced attack. I am just saying theoretically, if your goal is to score, then I don't care how it is done... whether in one minute or in an 8 minute drive.

And, count me in as one of those that would like to see the forward pass on a first down a little bit more than we do.

Saw that Wisconsin isn't announcing their starting QB for the opener with LSU until game-time. So there may not be much urgency on Mac's part to get a name out there. I'm not really sure what advantage there is to naming one early anyways, other than some possible psychological benefit and how they prepare.

You can match that benefit by just telling the QBs involved. I would tell the back ups as well as the starters, but ask them to keep it quiet.

After all of this smoke and mirrors, I am pretty sure I know who the starter is going to be. Hiram Gonzalez.

Being from Edinburg, I think he's an excellent choice. He had a pretty decent passes to TDs ratio.
