Great news on the academic front!

I don't really see what the class breakdown has to do with it. When I was a TA, I had plenty of people who tried to cheat or skim their way through PSCI 1040 and 1050 and ended up making Cs, Ds, and Fs. None of them were athletes. EVERY athlete (football, soccer, golf, volleyball, swimming, etc., across all sports) made As and Bs because they were always there and always turned in their work. It has been impressed upon them that they had better do what they're supposed to, or else. I can't speak to the upper-level classes, or to the experiences even those on here have mentioned to the contrary, but my limited sample even includes those huge lecture hall classes and about half of the dedicated and serious students I encountered were student-athletes. So though I can't provide insight into every semester since and in every single class, the thousands of students I can use as basis for my stance should be sufficient. Also, when I was a PA, I ran the study hall at West and with only a couple of exceptions (a couple of rowdy ladies on the swimming team), the athletes who used it towards their required study time were very serious about their studies. My point is that the serious students will make mostly As and Bs regardless of how hard the class is (with the occasional C) and those a bit more careless about their education will not. The Athletics Dept. drills it into the athletes' heads that they WILL be serious students.
