MGB: UNT picks up TE from Houston

Thanks Billy. I can't find his stats anywhere. One site says he had 1 24yd catch last year but that video shows several.

Yeah, there isn't much on him. For a kid who plays for a school that won a 5A state championship in 2011, (when Smith was a freshman), he seems very under the radar and under-exposed.

Although they did go 2-8 last year. I don't think I've ever seen a team win a state championship then go 2-8 just two years later.

So we will have a good blocking TE?? Unproven as a receiving TE...

I was thinking we'd take a good blocking tight end this class. Like a big kid who looks almost more like an offensive lineman, like Andrew Power or Wylie Reinhardt. This kid isn't as big as those guys, but he could be that blocking-type tight end. If Caleb Chumley (who is grayshirting and will come in as a QB), ends up moving to tight end, then you'd have a blocking specialist and a receiving specialist at tight end.

If you look at our roster, our tight ends are very top heavy. The scholarship guys are all seniors and juniors except Wylie Reinhardt. Tanner Smith is a senior, and Cooper Jones, Marcus Smith, and Chris Loving are juniors. If this kid and Chumley redshirt next year in 2015, then in 2016 all those guys would be gone and they'd have a great chance at playing time.

He's a verified 6'3" 224. 6'3" is too short for offensive tackle. 224 is way too light for o-line. Asking this kid to gain 70-80 lbs is not going to happen.

We're likely taking 5-6 high school offensive linemen this class. Those guys will be the linemen we ask to take over in the future. If anything this kid plays defense. If he's on offense, he's playing tight end.
