The SB Nation's Chargers blog takes a look at some UDFAs and their chances of making the final 53. He details the fact that Brelan's return prowess will be the deciding factor...

Brelan really needs a shot at returning kicks and punts in the NFL. He could be a game changer for some smart team. Hope it's the Chargers and it's this year

He said small school. UNT is not a small school. Some of these folks assume that if they don't know much about a school, it must be small.

What did you think he meant? Small players? Maybe we get small coverage in the media, but UNT isn't a small school. I heard in a recent presentation that UNT is around the 25th largest university in the country, 3rd in the state.

Certainly the author and eagle2014 are referring to the market size. Just like the Astros are considered a small-market team, but they happen to play in a top 5 media market and 4th largest city in the country. They're not saying that UNT is a "small school." It's just referring to the market size that follows the team.

It's not right from a literal standpoint, but neither was the mass media when they spent a decade referring to us as non-BCS.

I don't think AQ vs. non-AQ was finally adopted until the final 1 or 2 years of the system.

So they answer to your question would be, they are referring to non-P5 schools.

Media market wise DFW is 4th or 5th(I've seen both) but Houston in this list is 10th.

Fair point, but even then they probably don't count Denton in the DFW market. In terms of "Small-market" teams here, the author was implicating a small-market fan base, Texas being a perfect example of a large-market fanbase.

Denton is considered part of the DFW DMA - which is the 5th largest DMA in the country.

Austin is ranked 40th.

I'll bet the author of the article had no idea of the size of NT as a university. My friends in San Francisco were stunned at how big NT is. They thought it had about 18k total students between all of the campuses.

The summary of this article gave Brelan the best chance at making the team. 20% as opposed to 5% to the four others.
