I know experience is a lot in this game, but I always wonder how P5 teams always get the nod of approval for offense or defense when even they lose so many people. I think Mac has the mentality of those kinds of coaches and knows how to instantly replace a senior. Granted, it comes with the talent that is recruited, but I trust the guy. I don't think we're going to have as much of a setback on defense as most people think.

This reflects what I think going into the 2014 season. Sure we lost some very good players in Brelan, Zach, and others. As good as they were, and while some have signed as free agents, none were drafted by the NFL. These guys also filled in for somebody at one time, and most probably exceeded the expectations that many of us had for them. Football is a team sport, and no player can excel without good support by teammates. If posts on this site are any indication, the TEAM exceeded the expectations of most of us last year. The team was built by Coach McCarney and his staff, and they will now be fielding only players they recruited. Winning football programs prevail year after year, with only occasional blips. As long as McCarney is in charge of this TEAM, I think we are entering an era of winning football even as we bring in new players. I suspect that even the NFL scouts saw UNT as a great program that enjoyed success despite the lack of players deemed worthy of the draft.

And that right there is nailed right on the head. I completely agree with your take on Coach Mac and the staff. Well said!
