Southern Methodist University sold nearly $350,000 of beer and wine at basketball arena concession stands, according to the state comptroller’s office.

The sales figure indicates how much money the university stands to make when it starts to sell alcoholic beverages at football games this fall. SMU plans to kick off beer sales in Ford Stadium concourses at the first home game on Sept. 20 against Texas A&M. Alcoholic beverages are already available in stadium suites.

SMU began offering alcoholic beverages to the general public in January when its newly renovated Moody Coliseum reopened. They sold beer and wine at 13 men’s basketball games. Concession stands sold beer for $6 or $8 apiece and wine for $6 apiece.

We're already busy with a composting experiment there. Why not add some fermenting?

Drinking beer is about the only thing left to try at The Super Pit to improve the fan experience with Bumford in charge...

Didn't SMU have more people go to basketball games than football games last year?

Tried it last year, didn't help much.

Not in my seats of course and I didn't run out at halftime to power down a couple more so there is that.

Then adding antidepressant's to the beer at BB games and you would have 1/2 million yearly at least into the athletic department. Thank God we don't have baseball so we can take the "summer of discontent" off and not compound mental issues!

I think this is where the "additional revenue" to pay student athletes is going to come from.

Our alcoholism is student-athletes' gain. So remember that during the season....every beer you drink is helping a child through school.

Since all of our athletes are going to sleep hungry... Nothing to do with blowing per diem on XBOX...
