C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky has confirmed what we had been hearing for a while, that the C-USA champion will get first pick among the conferences bowls. Now, thats if the conference champ isnt the Group of Five pick for the College Football Playoff access bowls, as a few pundits have picked Marshall to be this season.

Now that C-USAs relationship with the Liberty Bowl is over, the conference is giving the champ its choice. Here are the contenders:

Bahamas vs. Mid-American on Dec. 24 in Nassau, Bahamas

Boca Raton vs. Mid-American on Dec. 23 in Boca Raton, Fla.

New Mexico vs. Mountain West on Dec. 20 in Albuquerque, N.M.

Heart of Dallas vs. Big Ten on Dec. 26 in Dallas, Texas

Hawaii vs. Mountain West on Dec. 24 in Honolulu, Hi.

Honestly we'd be silly not to pick the HOD Bowl if we were to have a chance to pick. It's basically a home game and a Big Ten opponent would bring more fans than the 25 fans UNLV brought last year.

Listen, I'll take a bowl win any day, especially with 40k+ at the stadium this time. I'd like to see us beat down a Big Ten team, but chances are they flip it for another bowl like they did last year. Anyway, here's hoping!

HOD is the only bowl in this list that comes in at over $1 million in payout/team. Unless CUSA trades up for another bowl (which they should considering the better teams in the league), we probably won't be seeing a payout like last year unless we win out.

I think this is the best plan for a conference like ours. HoD Bowl and NO Bowl will always be attractive choices for UNT, UTSA, Rice, and La Tech. UTEP will ove being able to go to the NM Bowl Bowl or HoD Bowl. F_Us will love Boca Raton Bowl. No one will ever want to go to The Hawaii Bowl or The Bahamas Bowl, just because of cost and length of travel time. But, make not mistake, for UNT, the HOD Bowl, NO BOwl, and NM Bowl are nice places for a school like ours to end a season in a bowl--almost every season that ends in New Orleans, Alburquerque, or Dallas will be great years...

All of the bowl revenue is shared between the teams in CUSA.

All revenue is pooled, expenses of bowl teams are paid for, then the remainder is shared by all teams, with the bowl teams getting double shares.

Well that's an awful set up. I'm sure words have been spoken to this matter before.

It's a common setup up for non P5 schools. Otherwise teams would flat out turn down invites to the most expensive bowls. You'll be happy for this when we end up having to take a Bahama or Hawaii bowl invite and this allows us to not end up 250k in the hole.

That's pretty much what the SEC does:

For bowl games providing receipts that result in a balance of at least $6 million, the participating institution shall receive $1,825,000 ($1,925,000 if the SEC team is a participant in the BCS game that determines the national championship) plus a travel allowance as determined by the SEC Executive Committee. The remainder shall be remitted to the commissioner and will be divided into 13 equal shares, with one share to the conference and one share to each member institution.
