Tonight, Elkhart star running back Jeffrey Wilson will be running under the bright lights.

Wilson was selected by the Texas High School Coaches Association to compete in the All-Star football game at 7 p.m. tonight at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The game will be presented on Fox Sports Southwest.

Wilson, in his time at Elkhart, had several excellent seasons at running back, which earned him the chance to go to college. He accepted a scholarship to attend the University of North Texas and become a part of the Mean Green family.

His coach at Elkhart, Sam Wells, said he is proud of his former running backs accomplishments and being named to the All-Star game.

The game is a really prestigious All-Star game, Wells said. It encompasses all of the schools in the state, and they undergo a big selection process. Typically, its a lot of the bigger school guys that get selected and all of the State Champions. For Jeffrey to be selected is great for him.

The coaches watched film on him and selected him, he added. Its a big honor for him to be selected. It means a lot for our school, especially with him being the third player from Elkhart to be selected for the game.

There is a set minimum number of players selected from each classification, 5a,4a, 3a, and so forth. In addition to athletic ability there are other considerations such as citizenship and academic achievement.

Jeffery performed very well in the All-Star game. It seemed every play call was trying to get the ball in his hands in some way. They lined him up a lot at receiver which I didn't really agree with but it was good to see him perform as well as he did. Very good addition for the Mean Green

Agree 100%. He excelled against pretty good competition in that game. Look forward to seeing him wearing green.

He can definitely catch the ball. There was little run blocking as the rbs had to get past 2 or 3 definsive players just to get back to the line of scrimmage. He had a big loss on his last carry as he had no chance. He looked really good on his other 3 carries. On one he slipped a tackle 5 yards deep and stiff armed a 2nd guy about 3 yards deep and got to the outside for a 9 yard gain. He could be really good,

Yup. He's a solid looking prospect. Very swift athlete, with good size. I see him leading the team in carries in 2016 after Jimmerson leaves. Hopefully this kid stays on track and keeps improving.

Seems more likely he will be behind Eric Evans. That dude is good.

Evans isn't very big, though. Wilson has the frame, plus he's coming from a small school where they couldn't have had a very advanced weight program. So Wilson's has good growth potential.

Wilson would be asked to carry the shoulder of the load, especially in between the tackles, while Evans and Ivery are used a little more sparingly but are able to be more home-run back types. Fewer carries and yards for them than Wilson, but higher yards per carry.

It's quite likely Jimmerson will be behind Evans this year.

Wished Jimmerson's head matched his football ability.

I don't think rb is decided at all at this point. Jimmerson was second team last year for a reason and unless he significantly improves; he won't start. At this point I would give the edge to Pegram even without spring practice. Rollins and Evans are also in the mix.

The ability to block is highly valued in McCarney's world and that ability will play a major part in who starts. Both Rollins and Evans are faster than Jimmerson and Pegram. The freshmen should be redshirted unless they can excel on special teams.

Really selling the Jimmy Show (his correct nickname) short folks. Again in love with the third/fourth string walkon.

Some of Mac's recent comments make me wonder. Hope he has it/gets it together.

Jimmerson's production as the 2 last year was great. He had flare and gave an at times putrid offense a spark. If he gives that same spark as the 2 this year then I will be more than happy. Hopefully the RB position will be utilized even more in the passing game this year. Jimmy is really good catching the ball in the open field.
