Days on the Hilltop werent very bright not too long ago.

After SMU received the notorious Death Penalty, the Mustangs failed to experience the same success they did in the late 70s and early 80s. In fact, SMU had just one winning season over the next 20 years.

Quarterback Richard Bartel, who went on to play for the Dallas Cowboys, was part of those dark and dreary days. Bartel suited up for the Ponies in 2003 but left the program after one season to give professional baseball a try he eventually ended his college football career with Tarleton State.

Well, when you're cheating at the scale SMU did in that era, it's hard to have that level of success otherwise.

But I do agree that Jones is overpaid and should be showing more success than he has. Well, unless UNT is playing him, then he's entirely free to fail hard. :P

So someone that nobody remembers, that didnt graduate from SMU, and is not prominent in the DFW community (that I know of, anyway) says that Jones deserves more money, and the DMN thinks that deserves an article?

Maybe there is a conspiracy, after all. <ninjaface thingy>

I think he deserves triple his salary and a 20 year extension.

He has led SMU to the only "shining" moments in their history where they weren't blatantly cheating. That their fans have these delusions that somehow 1) Dallas people care about them and 2) They belong with their old SWC brethren, is all the more reason to keep him around.

I don't understand this article's existence. An unremarkable QB who played for SMU for a year, some 5 years before June Jones arrived, thinks Jones should be paid more and someone at the DMN felt it warranted an article? Do I have it right?

I've got a buddy at law school with me who played under Jones. I'll just say that he didn't have anything kind to say about his football knowledge, which is why he left the program. DMN goes beyond getting on my nerves.

I think most college coaches are overpaid to an extent. :P Also....I wish I had someone writing I deserved a raise!

I am new here and don't know you, but you deserve a raise. You seem like a go getter, a real stand up guy.
