I found it interesting that despite K-State being bigger and faster, our offensive line held their own. Lemon, Y'Barbo and Johnson were all major contributors and at times were dominating. Derek Akunne was a young player but already making players all over the field on defense.

I won't delve into the details of this game, however it is worth mentioning that we stopped them on defense and proceeded to pound the ball down their throats the length of the field to take a 7 point lead. Then we had a TERRIBLE kickoff and special teams let downs that led to a quick K-State TD that changed the entire complexion of the game.

People comment on their concern about how we replace Chancellor and Smith but the WR on this day was Ivan Delgado a former walk-on. My point is, we can have effectiveness from the WR position even when we lose key starters. This offense plays to a possession receiver. You don't need Jerry Rice.

Same thing on defense -- Alex Lincoln played a LOT of good football in this game. There were others. I think our secondary will be improved in terms of speed and coverage.

I hope that we can field a better deep kickoff kicker... It killed us in this game and it makes a huge difference in field position especially against the higher caliber teams.

Much of the nucleus that made us so competitive in this game is back this season. We don't need McNulty to be a star, just complete the short to medium range passes and play action. I KNOW our special teams has improved in terms of speed and coverage. I know Texas has more raw speed and talent than K-State but but our game with them could be very similar in terms of what they are trying to do against us.

BTW K-State was ranked #15 in the country at the time this game was played.

Remember that K St. ran a very basic defensive game plan against us, not stacking the box. If Texs does the same, I think we will have some success running the ball against them.

But I don't think Texas will run a standard package. Why? We have zero QB experience. They will make whoever the QB is beat them. They will attempt to take away the strength of our offense, the OL and running game. That's what well coached defenses do.

The k state game was one of the times that I knew this thing was getting turned around. When k state drive the girls and was getting ready to show from inside the five, and then we strip the ball and stay in the game... That was something I hadn't seen with unt football in a long time

Thank you for posting this Harry. Good way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon with my wife at the pool.
