Offensive Line

It was somewhat of a mix and match game along the offensive line last year, but the unit is shaping up to be better in 2014. Three starters return including both tackles and an anchor at center.

Here’s a look at the projected SMU offensive line starters ahead of fall camp:

Contenders: Chauncey Briggs (So.); Seaver Myers (So.); Travis Firster (RS-Fr.); Taylor Lasecki (Jr.); William Barns (Fr., Highland Park); Daniel McCarty (So.); Christian Chamagua (So.); Kris Weeks (Jr.); Taylor Reich (Jr.)

Projected starters: LT Briggs, LG Myers, C Lasecki, RG McCarty, RT Weeks

On paper, SMU is the perfect matchup for UNT.

We have questions on the DL, they have questions on thier OL. They may know who thier starters are, but they do not have much experience.

Briggs LT, 1 yr exp. Played in 8 games. Started 7.

Lasecki C, started last two years. Solid

Myers LG, played in 3 games

McCarthy RG, played in 1 game.

Weeks RT, started 12 games last year.

They run the run and shoot, so the size of the line is smaller. 295, 296, 285, 290, 310. A good matchup for our small, but quicker DL.

Thier qb situation is no better than ours. burcham has only played in 4 games and started 2. Matt Davis has played 7 juco games and has no experience in a pass happy run and shoot system.

They also have issues at RB.

Their questions at qb, ol, and rb should balance out our questions with our front 7. Their run and shoot system plays into our strength with our experienced secondary.
