What a bunch of crap this issue has turned out to be.

Now I am accused of being a racist! So the definition of a "thug" is a black kid, that commits a crime while a white kid

gets off a DWI charge so that he can play football for North Texas.

I understand now.

From now on, I will just use the word "CRIMINAL" because the guys allegedly committed a crime of theft.

I will not say anything else. End of my discussion.

Haha, I'm a saint and you're a racist. These folks are great!

I hope there is a way for this to works it's way out. As far as I know it is the first time either have been involved in this sort of thing. Not sure what their financial situation is, but if scholly's are pulled, it could mean the end of their career. That's a tough thing to make a hasty decision on. Hate to see this sort of thing for anyone based on a poor decision at 20 years old. It really is a tough time to be a teenager/early 20's. Kids are so desensitized to things today compared to 20 years ago.

Doesn't excuse what they did. I am sure Mac will handle it appropriately based on the kids and the situation.

Hmmm, well, my least favorite thug in a long time was as white as me. I'll still call the guy a thug, especially now that I've helped getting him the hell out of the neighborhood. It really did take a village. Honestly though, I didn't know he had threatened to kill a woman until he was already gone. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but when a guy is married and has 2 grade school kids, he shouldn't be the least mature of his family. Technically, I don't know if he was a thief, but damn sure did some property damage.

Mac loses credibility if he doesn't kick them off the team. Abbé should have been kicked off the team, too. Anyone who gets multiple DWI/DUI is a thug in my eyes. There are consequences for breaking rules and laws. Even for 20 year olds. If Mac putting winning games above doing the right thing then shame on him.

Is it just my cynicism as I age, or is there anything to this suspicion that I have that people were thinking to themselves, "Well, Abbe's problems got too big to completely ignore, but still, that's a position where we have great need, so hey, glad he's back".

Is it just the qualified optimist in me that thinks, "Hey, if they don't have anything prior on their record, stay out of trouble during the rest of their stay here, and contribute in a big way, I'm all for giving them that second chance". And honestly, this is the way I feel.

Another thing; kids away from home for the first time need to be told some things that are really stupid to do, and for which people are judged harshly, one of them being theft. People need to feel like they can trust you. And honestly, I feel better about Ellis that he seems to realize he's f'ed up and will have a price to pay.

Sed sent me a couple messages. He seems to be handling it well and is ready to face what may or may not be getting ready to come his way. Maybe this fiasco will work out well for him and open his eyes, but then again maybe not. The ball is in Macs court.

Ellis pretty much incriminated himself replying to Ben Gooding in that tweet thread.

Not really. His tweet of laying in his bed that he made did that. He was just talking to the loud trumpet trying to clarify himself. He came off to me as remorseful and ready to face the consequences, whatever they may or may not be.

North Texas Shep

So, explain all kinds of ignorance to me? You seem to be a know it all. Explain why these two players are not thugs or criminals?

Reread my posting. Lets be clear. I said what is next for these 2 guy's. Stealing cars? Drug dealing?

I did not imply these 2 criminals are active with car thefts, or dealing drugs, or anything other than stealing TV's.

Delete my posting? Because I am discussed with thieves, no matter who they are. Specifically North Texas athletes!

Explain this. Fill in the blank spot. Someone that steals goods or other property that belongs to another person, or business

is a _______.

You can figure this out can't you?

Aren't you the same guy that nearly got "mugged" at a DART station a year or two ago by a "thuggish" guy who sprang out of nowhere in the night?

You are a rather hysterical type.

And for the record, overall, in middle class (white) america, the word nigger has been replaced in the last 6/7 years ever so effectively and somewhat surprisingly by the following:

Thug(s)

Socialist(s)

Muslim(s)

My apologies to the board for perhaps taking this off thread.

Back on topic - everyone - "THUG" or not is innocent until proven guilty. So let's tap the breaks until we learn more.

My opinion won't be unique and has been similarly shared by others in this thread, but we take great pride in the Mean Green Family attitude Mac's developed within the program. As the patriarch of this family, I trust Mac will weigh all the details that we don't have (details of the person's character on the whole, details of this case specifically, etc.) and make a decision that's best for the individual, the program, and the university as a whole.

In my opinion, Mac's earned my faith that he'll make the right call at the right time.

Well... its a class b misdemeanor. That sucks and deserves punishment. But it seems to me -judging from twitter- that the accused know(s) this and is willing to carry the consequences and atone, which is the first step (I would be much more angry if he had denied what he did), and I put much value on this step. From what I know this is a first offense. If I compare it to the Abbe situation, it is hard to know how to weigh this against each othe exactly but seeing as Abbe was a repeat offender I would hazard a guess it will be between several games suspension and pulling of the ship.

Let's give Mac some time to make a decision. I hope though, seeing as the incident is public, that whatever his call is will not be kept a secrret, that would send a bad message.

Charlie, it is because the students are black. They think you are implying black kid caught stealing = thug. White kid caught DWI = second chance.

I think they are implying that your implying is racist.

Ya, and that's stupid. Shep won the race to holier than thou with that post.

I don't agree with Charlue's snap judgement, but calling 2 guys arrested for felony theft really isn't out of line. Don't wanna be called a thug? Don't steal crap. Pretty simple.
