Johnny probably helped throw him a bone.

Seems like the most logical explanation for why a player he never recruited or coached wound up at a school he's never worked for, where none of the staff seem to have any prior history with or professional connection to him.

Come on, man. Johnny always helps out players that he has never spoken with.

What are you thinking?

Lots of potential, but made poor choices.

AD party line right here.

It couldn't possibly be that Benford made a terrible talent evaluation and wasted a scholarship, could it?

The LSUS basketball team had a shortage of size and bulk inside this past season, but coach Kyle Blankenship is going a long way to remedy that problem through recruiting.

The Pilots signed 6-foot-10 forward Keith Coleman, a transfer from North Texas, on Wednesday.

Blankenship said Coleman is best in transition and fits the Pilots’ up-tempo style.

“Keith is going to be able to come in and make an impact on both ends, and his ability to block shots and create havoc on defense is exactly what we needed and were looking for,” Blankenship said. “He’s a big body, but he runs the floor really well.

“Our conference (Red River Athletics Conference) is typically an undersized league, but when you get to the national tournament, you do see guys like Keith that played at Wichita State or Xavier.”

Coleman, who departed North Texas’ program because of an unspecified violation of team rules, will be a senior this season at LSUS.

He averaged three points and 3.4 rebounds this past season, but he blocked 27 shots.

I think Coleman was probably better than we were able to see if he had just gotten about 30 minutes a game (every game)This team actually needs someone of his size that can rebound and block shots from the center position. (Still wished we could have kept John Odoh instead)

I'll certainly follow him in Shreveport

Did Odoh see the floor for LSU last year?

FFR and I went and saw him play at WCC right after he committed. I thought he would project to an average Sun Belt center (which is better than any big man Benford has recruited, by the way). Other than off the ball shot blocking, he was a defensive liability, even for his CC team (big Weatherford kid went for about 18 with Ofoh defending him, as I recall). His offense game was non-existent, and while y'all, he wasn't a "quick" leaper.

The thing was, his upside was really the great unknown because he had only played basketball for a couple of years.

Unless he has greatly improved, I doubt he sees the floor this year with the caliber of recruits JJ has been bringing in.
