The SEC's Threats

Here's my biggest issue with this. They aren't claiming that the NCAA is being unfair, or breaking laws or acting immorally or unethically in ways that negatively affect them. No, they're stomping their feet and basically claiming that they should have the right to do whatever they want by virtue of the fact that they make the most money, have the most powerful alumni, etc., and that they deserve autonomy and don't have to listen to what they are told by an oversight organization.

I hate to bring government into this, but realistically, if you don't have an organization that oversees the goings-on to ensure both fairness and lawfulness, then the only real solution is to have a government overseer, and I don't think anybody wants that...so why don't these spoiled little shits just stop with their threats and pouting and temper tantrums? "We're going to do what we want anyway, but we're sick of you giving us fines and other punishments so we are just going to create our own organization that will replace you so that we can get away with everything you won't let us do."

I thought that Jim Delaney was the biggest asshole among the college commissioners but Mike Slime...er Slive takes it to a new high.

What is the purpose? To me it's nothing but GREED. Does the SEC have the largest enrollments? No. Do they have the highest academics? Again, no. Are they in the largest metropolitan areas? No, the largest city containing a SEC member is Nashville. The thing that they have going for them is attendance. That attendance is due largely because of the money that they have to "buy" teams which produces the best teams in the NCAA.

They already are averaging about $20 million revenue per team but now they do not want any control over their actions so that they can make more. The pie is not infinite so what they are wanting to do is take more from the "have nots" so that they control college football. The NCAA is an association to fairly govern its member institutions but it has already been rendered powerless to enforce any control of its members.

If the SEC (and P5) want to control themselves then I suggest that they start their own association. And, if they're interest in money is so great then it should be subject to taxes because their (football) athletes are becoming at least semi-pros.

The AD at Southern Miss pretty well summed it up though. They're getting pretty much what they want now so why do they need another division?
