How to talk to your kids about Aaron Hernandez

I was watching TV with my five year old daughter and saw that Aaron Hernandez is charged with two more murders. Now I have to explain that to her. God, I hate having to do actual parenting! How do I let her know, without blowing her mind, that some men actually kill other men?

I guess I could start by explaining that if you put 100 murderers on a deserted island together there will be none left within a year.

You have to explain things to them at their level. When my son was about 5, we were watching TV and there was this car chase. The car being chased crashed and the driver got out and ran as the police opened fire at him. My son asked me "Daddy, were they shooting at that man because he was speeding?" He knew that you could get in trouble for speeding as my wife would sometimes get after me for that.
