Broncos NFL Draft: Brelan Chancellor

Brelan Chancellor of North Texas could also fit the bill. Chancellor was one of just two players in FBS to rank in the top 30 in kickoff and punt return average last season (the other, Christion Jones, is still matriculating at Alabama). His 16.1-yard average on punt returns ranked sixth in FBS; his 27.6-yard average on kickoff returns was 19th. He scored each way last year and also has potential as a slot receiver. He's one of the most exciting players in this year's class, even if his likely draft spot -- somewhere in the 200's -- doesn't reflect that.

North Texas wide receiver Brelan Chancellor wasn’t invited to the scouting combine, but he deserved to be. He had 1,964 all-purpose yards this past season, a total that included a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against then-No. 9 Georgia that showed patience and the speed to close the deal against a SEC heavyweight.

Also, only two college players in the nation had three punt returns for at least 50 yards last season and Chancellor was one of them.

Chancellor showed some plenty of versatility as a receiver, especially this past season, and could line up outside or in the slot to add some depth on a roster.

He had a 53-catch season in ’13 with an average of 14.9 yards per catch. At 5-foot-8 1/2 and 188 pounds, Chancellor is undersized. But like a similarly sized wide receiver on this draft board in Wyoming's Robert Herron (5-foot-9, 193), Chancellor is a former running back who has been durable and decisive with the ball in his hands.

Strengths

Has big hands. Very good balance and body control. Runs strong with good body lean. Compact and controlled. Can contort his body in the air and make difficult catches. Has a 41-inch vertical jump. Outstanding agility, burst and short-area quickness. Slippery in the open field -- has a knack for avoiding direct contact and spinning off tacklers. Knows how to set up blocks. Tough and highly competitive. Good vision, awareness and traffic burst in the return game. Very good overall production.

So with the time Jeff Rodgers spent with Brelan, are we thinking Broncos are the likely team for him?

Green P1 they had one named Trindon Holliday but they decided not to reup him and he is potentially headed to free agency:

According to ProFootballTalk, the Broncos decided against offering the return specialist a minimum tender offer Thursday, per a league source. It's conceivable that Holliday could return to Denver, but the diminutive speedster likely would have to take less money.

my favorite Brelan clip is the kickoff return against Georgia... just to hear the old man in the radio broadcast say "C'mon Brelan!' in the background... something about his voice makes me laugh every time

A close buddy of mine happened to be driving through Texas on his way to Cali the Friday before this game. He is originally from Marietta and grew up a huge Uga fan. He stopped at my place and stayed the weekend with me and this entire game until Uga started to pull away he was sweating bullets. Uga fans had national championship aspirations early in the season, it being Murray's last season and Gurley with more experience etc. So he was in utter shock what we were witnessing that day. Granted Uga started getting hit with injuries and dropped off a little.

What ever team drafts or signs Brelan will become the only reason I will watch NFL football.
