6'4" 180 lb receiver from Tyler John Tyler. We are his first offer. This is likely because his production has not been great, but his potential is very impressive. Had about 368 yards receiving as well as 4 receiving touchdowns on 29 catches. Also plays basketball.

Good job by the staff! This is a kid who could really blow up with a big summer in 7on7 tournaments, camps, or if he has a big senior season.

That's what I've been saying its going to take. Convincing recruits that, even though their recruiting could blow up, he doesn't need to wait, and that we're the right choice for him.

Still have a lot of time that we're going to have to hold onto his commitment. But I think it's easier to fight off the big boys for a kid if he's already committed to you, rather than uncommitted with offers from P5 schools.

Love 6'4"!

BillySee58,

When do you think that weight measurement was taken? Prior to last season? That's pretty lean. Hopefully he can bulk up a little without losing any speed.

Nice pickup for the Mean Green!

I'm not sure. I give little stock to outside receivers' weights. I give even less stock to listed numbers (height, weight, 40 time) unless they are verified and the 40s are laser timed. He's skinny, we'll beef him up some, but he'll still be on the skinny side.

There is plenty of physicality on the outside and they can't be twigs out there, but at the same time we won't ever need Bendy to weigh much more than 200 lbs, if at all. IMO I think taller receivers make better blockers than short ones. Even if they are skinnier than the shorter receivers. You aren't asking for drive blocks out there, just staying locked up and not letting them get around you. There's more to being a good blocking receiver than that, just stating that I don't think being skinny is as big a liability in blocking as some might think.

Little follow up on Bendy's commitment, he now has a 247 and Rivals profile and is listed as a commit. Rivals rated him a 5.4 2-star, just shy of being a 3 star. Could easily get it with a big season or big summer on the camp and 7on7 circuit. Also, an ETSN article on his commitment.

Update: has now added an ESPN profile.

-Tyler John Tyler wide receiver Rodney Bendy is committed to North Texas but other schools are still after the 6-foot-4, 190-pound senior. ULM offered after he committed to the Mean Green and both Houston and Oklahoma are showing a lot of interest.

Lets hope he continues to follow the path of Tee Goree

Hopefully it's another Tee Goree situation

I'm not expecting that. Not saying you are either, but Goree had over 1200 yards and 17 tds as a junior. Then scored 28 as a senior. Bendy is coming off a junior season in which he had 368 yards and 4 receiving TDs. Realistically I'm hoping for Bendy to be closer to O'Keeron Rutherford.

Goree was a massive steal. Rutherford was a big steal too. And his growth from junior to senior year is hopefully similar to what Bendy's will be this year.

Meant as in we hold on to an east Texas WR who is receiving Big 12 interest

I think Rutherford would've had more offers and interest as well if not for his grades. Getting him cleared was a big deal.

Loved that Goree remained true to his committment. Hope Bendy does the same and is a man of his word.

I love that our staff is identifying these types of players. You will lose some of them, but it tells me that we are going after the right ones which is huge.

any word on how his grades are?? I just cant bring myself to believe someone of his size and speed doesn't have 20 plus offers.
