sounds like lil Mac has been killing it in the off season, good battle for the starting job between him and Greer. Looks like DW is falling behind fast, leading to other questions for the fall, does he stick around knowing he will be riding the bench.

If Erick Evans is put on scholarship that means two things:

1. First and foremost, he earned it and the coaches think he is a valuable member of this football team. Not just during the week and offseason, but also on game days.

2. He only played 1 season with us as a walkon before being put on scholarship, so his scholarship will count towards the 2015 recruiting class.

If Evans is indeed put on scholarship then we may be looking at another signing class that is already pretty filled up. SMU OL transfer Sam Rice, A&M DE transfer Jordan Richmond, Buffalo LB transfer Blake Bean, and UNM DB transfers the Jackson twins will all count towards the 2015 class as long as they all come in on scholarship. Not to mention the 3 grayshirts DL Jon Graham, DL Shaq Jackson, and QB/ATH Caleb Chumley.

5 transfers (if all our coming in on scholarship), 3 grayshirts, and a walkon puts our 2015 class at 9 spots potentially already filled up.

9 of how many? 25?

Unless we were to sign a late-qualifier for 2014 (like Hafoka Olie) we should be able to sign 27. Since we were 2 short of 25 signees this year, we can sign 2 over 25 next year as long as at least 2 of the signees enroll by spring 2015 semester or earlier, which won't be a problem.

Thanks for the insight. Always.

assuming all these guys pan out... continue playing football and earn their scholarship, right?

BTW Billy, with Busby quitting football does that add yet another ship to the class?

There are two restrictions on how many kids you can sign. The 25 cap per class, and the 85 max per class. You can exceed 25 only if you were short of 25 the class before. You can then exceed 25 by the number you were short, as long you have at least that many mid-term or sooner enrollees.

With Busby quitting we currently have about 62 scholarship players on campus right now, not including Richmond, Bean, or Sam Rice who would be a part of the 2015 class. We have 14 freshmen signees set to enroll in the fall. That would put us at 76 scholarship players from the 2014 signing class or earlier.

That leaves 9 scholarship spots, plus 17 rising seniors from that group, for a total of about 26 spots currently available for the 2015 class. So the Busby departure does open up a spot in a way.

I believe so. If one of our scholarship transfers were to quit, I'm not sure if they would still take up a spot in the 2015 signing class.

Whatever happened to Chad Reese, the Wyoming player who had one year of eligibility left when he showed up on our doorstep? I know that he has to sit a year but will we still offer him for his final year?

Walkon was always the plan with him. Don't think he enrolled in time for this semester. Could likely see him in the fall, then sit out a year and play in 2015. Whether or not he earns a scholarship is tbd.

I guess I'm unclear how the process actually works... if a player transfers to another school, when does he actually receive his scholarship with that school? as soon as he steps on campus? or after he has sat out his year?

They go on scholarship as soon as they get to campus.
