Between your hippie commune network and my survivalist network, we could rule the world!!

I don't know. Things could get a litle dicey when your militia boys try a bit of our daily ration of pcp-laced quinoa.

I too think the Earth is overpopulated. However, most of the developed world is increasing at a fairly stable rate that we can deal with. Plenty of countries will soon be losing people as their demographics are getting much older (Japan for instance might be in crisis in a generation). However, places in Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East haven't slowed their birth rate to match the rest of us.

I think the earth goes through heating and cooling periods. Considering scientists have been collecting data for a hundred years or so and the earth is 4.6 billion years old, I am guessing we need a larger data sample to start pointing fingers as to what is going on. It was a cold winter and I am guessing the Summer is going to be hot.

The whole argument around man made climate change is that it is MAN MADE.

The Earth had less than 1 mbillion people up until around 1850. Since then, the population has boomed to over 7 mbillion. This change is enough to alter any natural warming/cooling trends that could be measured somehow before 1850.

EDIT: Ha! Nice catch 23. those numbers would change the argument pretty drastically.

And you make me question why we admit immature 12 year olds, so we are kinda even.

Immature?

lulz.

Guess I'll just keep my actual scientific debate to real debate settings, Bill O'Reilly.

The Earth is warming. Whether or not it is man made or not is easily debatable. Stupid alarmists like Gore have derailed the actual conversation and alarmists blame it on everything. Even the original guy who pitched the idea thinks we've gone overboard.

I mean, cool, as of now. The hysteria, true or not, has lowered pollution and push started development in wind and solar, clean electricity. What's wrong with being Earth friendly? Carbon emissions pollute the atmosphere and create smog. That is at the very least a scientific fact.

I don't see the problem.

Either way, I'll get my information from scholarly journals and recognized scientists over some conservative Limbaughite online.

The problem is that alot of the alternative energy-producing methods are in their infancy and are very expensive, & aren't as efficient as they could be.

So, alot of people would rather have cheap now more than investing in the future. Then, unfortunately, Al Gore got involved and that immediately made enemies out of people who are politically-minded.

So yeah, let's invest in wind energy, sure! But that stuff is expensive now, and the technology of it isn't quite where it needs to be to maximize efficiency. Don't be surprised to hear backlash over spending that kind of money when we can stick with the tried-&-true oil exports from the middle east for ~$100/barrel.

Remember about 8 years ago, or so, when a Plasma HD TV was brand new technology and was extremely expensive and ran very hot?

Now, it's one of the cheaper TV options as the science of it developed.

Great post. That's a good description of why this is a political battle as well. At some point though, you are going to have to find alternative energy and we're gonna have to pay the bills. The current way of drilling for oil, for example, is ruining the environment. And Tesla has had nothing but legal battle after legal battle (and slander). It's just frustrating because we have to start now. That's why I think it's so great that UNT is at the forefront of alternative energy development. Best Buy is getting into the solar panel game to push them to more consumer level usage.

But absolutely there's always gonna be fear but plasma TVs developed because people bought the old ones and helped manufacturers learn about their problems, increase efficiency and success of them overall. It is what it is. I love the fact that I go to a school in which the football stadium is powered by renewable electricity as are places like the Rec Center.

Off topic, I recently bought a Panasonic plasma open box since they don't make them anymore and it's the best freaking TV I've ever seen--and I worked in Magnolia for three years.

I didn't know there was still an Atlanta. You mean, it's not underwater yet? I was just waiting for Kevin Costner and Napolean Dynamite's girlfriend to float by.

Damn those stubborn polar ice caps! Why can't they melt faster so that the East Coast, West Coast, and Canada can be flooded and forgotten! I'm taking the long way home today and mowing my grass at lunch time tomorrow. Hurry up climate change! We're depending on you!

Yeah, I think we've been in a warming phase for about 20 thousand years give or take.

The rate at which we warmed for the 20th century is sorta alarming when you look at it. I'm somewhere in the middle in this flame war though. Given the fact that the Earth (and life itself) is pretty resilient, everyone saying we're ruining Earth is slightly off base. We may be ruining it for US, but life is gonna continue on for billions more years, whether humanity is here or not (life survived snowball earth for crying out loud!). Well....till the Sun goes Red Giant on our ass anyway. Then the earth is kinda effed.

YOU??? Sitting the fence on something? Nawwwwww, not you. Say it ain't so!

LOL,.Sorry C, couldn't resist.

It's weird how so many people can believe in bearded magicians and parting seas, while refusing to even acknowledge certain scientific facts that point to potentially serious threats to humanity. What is so wrong with taking preventive measures? It seems like you can't even mention it without someone feeling the potential of being "treaded on." And I know there's many who despise the idea of "tread." I've read their bumper stickers. But if you think about it, tires have tread and many tires are recycled. Think about it...I know I haven't

See, you lost me at "certain scientific facts," otherwise we may have agreed. Conserve? Good. Clean air? Good (as long as government restrictions are not overly burdensome on businesses to the point of costing jobs), but don't force BS therories down people's throat as facts. Don't say the world is ending tomorrow of I put my plastic bottle in the trash instead of the recycle.

Just stop.

And this program didn't. To the N'th degree didn't.

At least it's on NBC so there won't be many watching. Jay Leno had the right answer when they asked him what NBC stood for...

His answer? NoBody Cares.

NBC is holding its own in the late night segment.

So, you believe in God and not climate change because of "facts?" Interesting. Also, you are not for clean air if it is "burdensome on business to the point of costing job?" Very Interesting. Who would define burdensome? Pro-business folks, I assume? So, as long as we are creating jobs and making scratch, we can have polluted air and dig up wildlife habitat and carbon sequestering flora to make more business? Novel idea. I'm sure grandkids across America are in.

It's called a balance, my friend. I'm sure the grandkids across America want their parents to work for a living and provide food to put in their cute little mouths.

I guess they could just go on welfare and let you and I pay for them, right? I'm sure that is better than risking a one inch rise in sea level over the next 40 years.
