Chancellor - Feb Regional Combine

Looking for some context for what might be considered a good result for our guys, I came across this note from a February regional combine about Brelan. At least it gives us a few numbers that he's likely hoping to improve on.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000324896/article/regional-combine-several-pro-prospects-worthy-of-attention

WR Brelan Chancellor, North Texas (2014)

Height/weight: 5-8, 188
Vertical: 39.5 inches
Broad jump: 9 feet, 9 inches
40-yard dash: 4.66 seconds

Chancellor was productive in college and was named the Conference USA Special-Teams Player of the Year last year. Chancellor had kick-return TDs of 99, 93 and 73 yards, and he showed an ability to run excellent routes with ideal smoothness throughout. Chancellor has a good shot at making it into a camp, but teams will be bothered by his pedestrian 40 time.

That 40 time is B.S. I watched him run away from LSU and GEORGIA, and that tells me all I need to know.

Consider the guy from Oregon D. Thomas aka the black mamba ran away from a ton of guys on the field yet he only ran a 4.5 at the combine. Some players play faster and look faster on the field than they do posting a 40 time.

What was Lance's 40? it has been mentioned he is the fastest guy on the Cowboys and I think Brelan is just as fast.

I believe Dunbar ran a 4.48 or 4.45 40 at unt's pro day (hand held) those times are usually off by .03 to .05 seconds the men timing at that level are usually pretty solid. That being said, brelan was faster than Dunbar.

Throughout the scouting process, I've sort of looked at Michigan WR Jeremy Gallon as the nearest comp to Brelan.

Jeremy Gallon - "Stocky, strong slot receiver with more of a running back's build, Gallon possesses the hands, zone awareness and toughness to fend for a job in the pros. Lacks the top-end speed desired as a kick returner, but shows enough burst to warrant an opportunity fielding punts."
Comparing Gallon's combine/pro day results with Brelan's numbers...
WR Jeremy Gallon, Michigan (2014)

Height/weight: 5-8, 185
Vertical: 39.5 inches
Broad jump: 10 feet, 10 inches
40-yard dash: 4.49 seconds

WR Brelan Chancellor, North Texas (2014)

Height/weight: 5-8, 188
Vertical: 39.5 inches
Broad jump: 9 feet, 9 inches
40-yard dash: 4.66 seconds

Hopefully, Brelan can improve on the numbers Wednesday because I have zero doubt he'll be on someone's roster this fall, I'd just love to hear his name called from the Radio City Music Hall podium.

And many cheat on hand held 40 times. No one runs a 4.2 forty.

Forty times in football are like height measurements in basketball. Take 2 inches off a height measurements and add 0.2 seconds to the advertised 40 time.

Rarely anyone runs a 4.2. Usually one guy runs it a year at the combine (electric times). No way he runs a 4.66.

Well, he did. 40s are ran in shirts and T-shirt, not full pads.

We all know Breland was rarely caught from behind in the open field. Lets hope NFL teams look at the film more than the stop watch.

Interestingly enough, I did see Dunvar caught from behind on a regular basis at UNT. Now some on here are saying he is the fastest player on the Cowboys. Don't know if I believe that, but it's obvious he is an NFL talent. Hopefully an NFL team feels the same way about Breland.

I wonder who will be picked first, Breland or Zac.

Brandin Byrd and Zach Orr, have just as good of chance having their names call as well. They all are 3 good football players who have a shot at the next level. It is going to be interesting too see.

Not to disrespect Mr. Byrd, but he will not hear his name called during the draft. After it yes. As a free agent yes. The NFL does not not value the running back position like it once did. Plus there are about 30+ other guys who would get the call before he does. Just the truth, it doesnt diminish what he did for UNT though. He will get a chance to make a roster somewhere.

Zach probably has the better chance due to position scarcity alone.

This is the truth. Unfortunately, WRs and RBs are a dime a dozen in the NFL. And, these days, especially RBs. Anyone notice that it ain't RBs getting huge contracts these days? As an RB, unless your name is Adrian Peterson, you're lucky if your own team even tries to re-sign you.
