That team bounced in & out of the top 25 this season and has a legit shot of winning the NIT.

In all fairness and past politics, ie, bad feelings of decades past aside....SMU got screwed.

How many Top 25 wins did SMU have this season versus those who got Big Dance invites some of whom may have never-ever played a Top 25 school period?

SMU's OOC schedule was 309 and they lost 5 of 6 down the stretch. They had a case, but they're not the first team to be kept out because of a bad OOC schedule.

I don't have time to compare SMU against other schools in the tournament but they went 4-3 against ranked Top 25 teams. Here is their breakdown on RPI. The OOC RPI is very, very low and that hurt them as well.

They didn't win any road games worth a damn. Beating teams at home really doesn't mean much these days.

And losing those 5 of 6 games. That was huge. The committee looks closely at how a team is currently performing. Losing 5 of 6 killed the Ponies, especially when they had nothing to point to OOC.

I stand corrected. They were scuffling down the stretch though, and every bracket guru kept moving them down. I hadn't seen them moved out yet, but they were getting into bubble territory on some sites, so I guess it wasn't a total shock.
