Is there a better NT play than...

BIG DAWG

Recommended Posts

No one can deny the greatness of Booger or that play, but "The Stand" was the best football I have ever seen played.

There is definitely room for debate. The Stand was a great series, for sure.

To throw out something on a grander scale, I personally thought that 2002 defense was more fun to watch. Buckles and Jones were 2 editions of Trice that seemed to feast on anything across the middle. Seemed like we had more playmakers across the front 7 than we did last season.

I'm sure there is a lot of nostalgia in my Green Koolaid, though.

But that wasn't a single play, so it's not a contender. Unless you want to single out one particular play from that stand.

I have seen some great NT plays throughout the years, but I can't think of a better one than that particular Booger play.

I disagree. The finale play of "The Stand" was a great play that deserves mention among the best of UNT plays. In fact, it's better than Booger's play in that it required all 11 players to do their job for about 20 seconds that the quarterback was running around. Booger just made a great play on his own.

I think the 99 yard touchdown pass to Fitzgerald deserves some mention.

No, you don't disagree. At least not with my first line. You just chose a single play. Well done.

That one crossed my mind.

Didn't Booger have a great play or two against Baylor?

I think he had the safety like 6 seconds into the game, didn't he?

*Tear*...but, but, they're all so beautiful...do I have to pick just one? :P

Booger has the best d play.

Offense is harder for me. Some of the ones mentioned above definitely. But also consider the miracle in the desert where hall hit Marshall between two defenders and threaded that needle perfectly.

There was an amazing grab by Quinn for a TD against ASU that was simply amazing once in a life time grab.

There was the first big run by Jamario Thomas against Colorado that was awesome.

There has been several times that chicos shovel pass plays work to perfection.

Most embarrassing play goes to McLain at the tech game in 2000.

Some other great plays I remember-

Jeremy Pearls pass interception return for a TD in the NOB Cincinnati bowl game

Patrick Cobbs big 30 yd TD run in the NOB Cincinnati game.

The NMST game at Fouts, Booger destroys the huge NMST OG Steve Luna

all game long. Booger sacked the QB and took the ball away from the QB in the same fashion as

QB sack and taking the ball away from QB as in the MTSU game.

How about the big run Jamario Thomas had, where he lost his shoe!

There are too many great NT players and great plays to name.

I think I would name a defensive series as the greatest "team" play--

the 8 play goal line stand against Rice. Freaking unbelievable accomplishment.

National TV, good crowd at Apogee! Halloween night! What a night for the Mean Green!

Outstanding!

Oct. 25
1975:
A 21-14 loss to North Texas State might not be the most shocking loss in Tennessee history but it’s on the shortlist. The Vols were a 23-point favorite but the Mean Green took advantage of turnovers to get a 14-7 lead in the second quarter. Tennessee scored a touchdown on a Randy Wallace pass to John Murphy with 4:39 to play. Down 14-13, coach Bill Battle elected to kick the extra point and take a 14-14 tie, which drew boos from the crowd. Turned out the conversion was academic. Sears Woods, who had scored the two previous North Texas TDs, returned the kickoff 98 yards for the game-winning touchdown.

When considering this, several plays come to mind:

- JMo's shoeless run (around the 1:50 mark)

- JQ's catch against Ark St (which he discusses )

- Nwigwe's 97 yard INT TD against WKU during which Jub described the scene as Nwigwe having a "convoy" with him running into the endzone to seal the victory (the only one in 2008)

BUT, my first home game as a student in Denton was 9/6/03 with the first points I ever witnessed live coming on what will always be my "most memorable" play...

"All-American defensive tackle candidate Brandon Kennedy set the defensive tone early when he picked up a Baylor fumble and returned it 24 yards for the first score of the game with 5:25 left in the opening quarter."

It'd be hard to be this play in my collection of NT memories.

Take away the previous 10 plays and it's a single play where 11 players did their job.

Take away the 10 plays before Booger's insane move, and it's still an insane move.
