This made me look for Walton's ULL game winner on Mean Green Sports (for a further tribute to Brandan). There was a time when it was posted (along with Hank and George's call), but for some reason it's been taken down. That really sucks - that was one of the most dramatic endings to a game I've ever seen in person. We went ape shit when he hit that trey.

So instead, I'll just post this.

The video on Brandan's game winner...had the following defensive stand. Did you notice Alzee took the initial option away (their PG was more likely to have a good shot then throwing back to some guy heaving a 24 footer), and forced a pass to someone in much worse position? Fitting that both feature so prominently in that video.

Excellent post, these guys lived through some very hard times on the basketball court.

Alzee Williams had the best season of anyone on the team. Not many players survive 5 years in a program these days. Good on both ends of the court and emerged from the Benford doghouse in his junior year to come back strong in his senior year.

Walton, the most important guy on the team in his junior year, his first game injury destroyed the whole year per Benford. Back to reality, Walton was a very active player who got the most out of his ability. In both years of eligibility, his game got much stronger at the end of the year. A JJ recruit that I thought was questionable but turned out to be a very good addition to the team.

I did not understand the Vaughns' signing. I don't think one year players add much to the program unless they are exceptional. Vaughn did add good depth to the backcourt and had some very good performances.

Absolutely. I was a freshman that year, and that was one of the games that really turned me into a die-hard.

If I recall , that was the 1st game played w/o Chris & Jordan. Was a much needed boost and it gave the team confidence to make their SBC run

Yes it was. I think that was when Alzee took over at pg as well. Trey Norris wasn't quite stepping in the way we had hoped, and Alzee did what was asked of him.

We actually had one game before that w/o CJ and Jordan. It was a mid-season exhibition against Huston-Tullotson for the DISD game that year. That game was also very fun for me, experiencing the DISD kids for the first time. Alzee and B Walt both went for over 20, which was good to see after Chris and Jordan were out. Also that game, Tyler Hall got fouled hard going up for a dunk and landed on his face. He broke his nose, but luckily didn't miss any playing time. He did, however, look like a raccoon walking around campus after.

Look how many people are at the game. Ah, those were the times.
