this is where Benford is failing... and it seems very clear...

now, I know you don't have to see yelling and screaming all the time to convey your message... but doesn't everyone just get the feel like Benford was just reading a script when he said this?

no team spirit... no breakdown at the end of his speech... just 'really proud of you, alright? let's go get the next one... i have to go to a meeting'

how excited would you be to play for this guy?

Hmm.. Just watched some locker room basketball speeches for reference and this doesn't seem that abnormal. Definitely not the same feel as football locker rooms.

Pretty much. While I have seen some fire and brimstone basketball locker rooms, it's not the norm. Maybe if you're getting your ass kicked at halftime a coach might pull out the Patton general stuff, but generally it's not the way basketball coaches operate (unless you're Bob Knight).

That said, I am not defending Benford here.

I see nothing wrong with this video. It's just a coach praising his team after a win. There is plenty to roast Benford about this season but this one is a reach.

I also would add, that if Benford gave some rousing speech, he'd be ripped for it being "only a win over Rice." He's basically damned either way here.

Agreed, but he pretty much put himself in that position.

Totally agree it's a reach.

March is about playing with a sense of urgency and down the stretch they showed it.

I think there is a sense amongst the coaches and players that they have more left to play for. Time to stay focused not get all rah rah. You've got a game in less than 24 hrs and the prep starts now.

Not a Benford fan , but I didn't see anything wrong with the video. As for the x's & o's , it is a very small part of the game.

There's the problem. Only spends 5% on X's and O's. I think it shows.

The only X's and O's coach Benny concerns himself with are the ones that end up on his shirt after he's chugged a can of Chef Boyardee. Edited by Green P1

The players literally looked like they could care less about what he had to say or being in El Paso.

It's the player reaction, or lack thereof. Same thing I saw from 2 rows behind the bench last year.

The player reaction is what gets me. Seems off. Speech wasn't amazing but it seemed vague.

Nothing personal against Ben. I just can't stand that this is how people, particularly of my generation, talk and misuse the English language. And who doesn't love Urban Dictionary? Carry on with the video analysis.

Notice the basketball sugar daddy standing behind Benford? Benford's future at North Texas will be determined by Keune, the million dollar donor who showed up late for the party...about two decades late to the party.

exactly... like i said... i know you don't have to be yelling to get everyone's attention... but this coach actually seems like he cared about what happened on the court... he appeared to be motivating his players... and he gets together with his team at the end, in an act that takes 5 seconds tops before dashing out the door... and this is a midseason game

i understand that basketball doesn't have that same enthusiasm as football because you play almost 3 times as many games, but this is tournament time... this is a time where it's win or go home...
