When is the last time the Rice Owls won a game? Well you would have to go back to February 6th when they defeated the Mean Green 75-70. It wasn’t a pretty effort for UNT on that night. Well that’s all in the past now, because the conference tournament is a whole new season. Conference Tournament week is just as exciting as the Big Dance. It’s an opportunity for almost every team to make a run to the dance. The teams that can play with the most sense of urgency are the teams that come from nowhere to punch their tickets. Can UNT be one of those teams? Can Coach Tony Benford guide this Mean Green team through a tough bracket. A win against Rice would lead to a matchup against Tulane, who is another team that UNT lost to this year. First thing first though UNT needs to take care of the Owls.

CUSA TOURNEY GAME 1 – UNT VS RICE BASKETBALL PREVIEW

What grabs me in this article is the striking similarity between Rice and UNT stats.

Thank God for 4 games against non-D1 competition, I guess.

I think the bracket sets up as good as we could have hoped given our seed. Athletically I think we are better than Rice & Tulane. Our guards matchup well w/ Tulsa. Get to that game & get some production from our bigs and who knows.

Expectations low, but I'm pumped

I guaranteeing a WIN over Rice!!!

Ya I think its very possible to get by Rice and Tulane. The facts are that we didnt beat Rice, Tulane or Tulsa so its a little concerning.

Not to be a buzzkill, but I think the main reason the draw looks good for the first two rounds is because there are really only 5 good teams in this conference and 4 of those teams don't play until the third round. We don't have UTEP in the second round, so anyone else we are at least on par with talent wise and it won't take an extraordinary effort on our part to win. Just a solid game, which is no small feat in itself.

I'm not sure who we match up with best out of the 4 double-bye teams. But on a two-game winning streak we would have a decent chance.

Well MTSU is the one we played the best against. Then probably Tulsa. To beat either of those teams it would take an extraordinary shooting effort and for either of those teams to have an off night. Being tired shouldn't be an issue yet. Maybe hope for rust.

Nice writeup.

I am gonna go with Walton to have another big game today off the bench. If Hot Springs 2012 is any indication, he likes the big stage.

We certainly need his 3pt shooting to make a run. IMO its gonna take one of the bigs coming on strong for us to make a serious run. Someone other than Voss (we need his mid range game). Coleman or Gaines needs to have an impact. That is asking a lot to. Almost like asking someone to accurately predict the winning lottery numbers for you.

90 hasn't commented in this thread yet, so I had to be the buzzkill ;). I can't wait for this Rice game either.

Man, I don't know. We really didn't get run out of the gym by any of those teams. But at the same time, other than the hot start at the beginning of the MTSU game I never felt like we had a legitimate shot in any of those games. But the scores were relatively close and we definitely could've played better. Let's see if we do here.

I just looked it up. Walton averaged 13.67 points a game in the '12 SBC tournament. And that includes him missing a lot of the ASU game with an injury (he was able to play in the final though).

Walton is definitely my "pick to click" or whatever they call it.

Consistency is not a trait of this team....One good game. .sure....two...stretching it a bit....Three or more...ya right. ..

Not pretty, but he went for 17 today.
