Its getting to the end of the season and thus some questions about the future of both the UNT mens and womens basketball programs, both in the short and long term.

Both teams will play Tuesday in the opening round of the Conference USA tournament in El Paso. The UNT men will play Rice, while the women will face Louisiana Tech.

So much for improving rebounding, eh coach?

I really hope someone does something about this after the tournament. This guy says the same thing every year and delivers a big ole Cleveland steamer right on the unsuspecting and unwilling fan base.

Actually, it's not unsuspecting anymore.

Before long, Andrew will be the lone receiver of that act, unless visiting fans want to join in the fun.

If next season starts off awful I will certainly not be in Benfords court. I am less supportive this year then last.

At this point I think we lucked with our draw in the conference tounrmanet, which gives us a decent chance of finishing above .500.

Now going into the 2015 season no matter who the coach is there could be issues. That would be an excellent opportunity to bring in a new coach since expectations will most likely be low anyway.

If true & we add 2 more players to the 2014 class, that means someone who is currently with the team will not be here next season

2 ships would put us over the limit. We still have several open offers. Still think we land a JUCO PG & BIG to finish out the class

And... I think we have the chance to be really good next season. Add a reliable PG & someone who can actually give you something in the low post and this can be a top tier CUSA team. A win over Creighton could turn this whole thing around. If things don't change before conference then it will be time to pull the plug on Benny.

I expect at least 2 players to leave/not be asked back after this year.

It's what happens in a Benford program.

I am in that boat. I am curious about the "multiple pieces" is Coleman or Flanningan not coming back? Wesley is on track and Combs is excited to play in the team.

The jump from mouth stuff to moist hand stuff is always one of the most drastic to make.

      Opps! Jim Hobdy created the UNT Battle Flag in 1986 and WAS NOT involved with Rick Spear's design of the flying worm which was adopted by Hayden Fry and used during his tenure.My bad. It is a shame that we didn't stick with it and it certainly separated us from any other eagle mascot. However if you google history of Mean Green knickname you will find the credit for its universal usage by UNT attributed to Rick Villareal, not Hayden Fry.

      I don't think Hayden did this. Perhaps you could provide some reference as I can't recall the term "mean green " applying to our team as a whole until the 2000's. Yes the eagle is our mascot and mean green is the nickname of our team. Also I believe Jim Hobney [sic] was also involved in the creation of the flying worm bet can't exactly remember how. Maybe you know.

      I agree with most all you say, but I don't think Coach has his team here yet. Everything is not yet fixed (ie defense). If he can elevate the Defensive play (ie new DC and bigger, better players) to match the Offense, then we will have something! Sorry, we are still a work in progress!

      This is a big game for Elf

      We have lost 4 of the last 5 against this program, 5-7 overall. UTSA has been playing FBS football since 2012. Since 2013, we have been in a conference with them. Through last season, they are 72-65. They've won 2 conference titles and have gone 1-4 in bowl games, while also being ranked. They've had three coaches. In the same category above, we are 63-71. No conference championships and have gone 1-6 in bowl games. We have had 4 head coaches. If we lose to them tonight, Morris will basically tell us that he just isn't going to be able to lift this program higher than it was when he took it over. UTSA in 2024 is not good. They're 4-5, with wins over Kennesaw State, Houston Christian, FAU, and (somehow) Memphis. Not counting having to sacrifice themselves to UT-Daddy, they've lost 4 games against peer programs, Texas State, ECU, Rice, and Tulsa. Maybe I'm wrong, but we should beat these guys, even on the road at a place that has been a house of horrors for us, if we have the right coach leading us. This is one of those games that will tell us in our hearts if we have someone worth a damn as the head coach or if he's no different than everyone else we always hire here.
