I see there are 4 transfers on the 2014 roster: DT Dan Kottman; DE Jordan Richmond; LB Blake Bean; and

OL Sam Rice.

I assume these 4 players will receive a scholarship that will come out of the the 2015 class.

If these 4 players do receive scholarships, then will Coach Mac only have 21 available

scholarships for the 2015 class?

What about current walk on's that earn scholarships from the 2015 class ?

The 2015 class could end up with fewer available scholarships to offer than the 2014 class.

How many scholarships will be available for the 2015 class?

I have no earthly idea at this point. As a matter of fact the coaching staff might not even have an exact number. Medical redshirts, JUCO transfers, etc. There is no telling. At this point the coaching staff really needs to be honing in on needs and quality over quantity.

It's not that simple. They can add midterm jucos who don't necessarily count to the 25 they are allowed on signing day 2015. However you do bring up a valid issue in that Rice, Richmond, Kottman and Bean would count against the 25 (leaving us 21) IF they are extended and accept scholarships. My guess is that Rice and Richmond and possibly Bean may have them in hand so long as they walk the straight and narrow but Kottman is a walk-on who would have to prove his health and receive a scholarship. So if all 4 stay with the program it's certainly possible that they could occupy 4 of the 2015 spots due to the fact that they have not been on campus for 2+ years... that's the transfer rule that hampered our signing day numbers last time around.

PS == I shouldn't say hampered, all of the walk-on guys they provided scholarships to out of this last class were big time contributors (Macek, Kirby and Buyers) with the exception of Skip Caldwell and Mac has stated that even he was a big help to us. If you can get walk-ons to perform like that you are very fortunate because you are able to give a scholarship you KNOW will pay dividends to the program...

We can sign 27 this year, since we only signed 23 this year. You get 25 a class, unless you were under 25 the class before. However many under you were the year before, you can sign that many in excess of 25 the next year. As long as you have at least that many (the number in excess of 25) enrolling at midterm or earlier. Basically as long as 2 of those guys enroll by spring of 2015, which Richmond and Rice already have, then we can sign 27.

If Bean is in fact on scholarship, he will count as well as Richmond and Rice. Kottman is coming in as a walkon, so he will not count. The grayshirts from last class will also count in 2015. Chumley, Shaq Jackson, and Jon Graham will count towards this class.

Basically that's 5, maybe 6 (if Bean is on scholarship) of a possible 27 spots for 2015 already filled up.

Don't forget about Chad Reese, the safety who transferred from Wyoming. He has several starts under his belt and had 3 interceptions as a sophomore in 2012.

Reese is apparently coming in as a walkon as well. At least initially.
