some of those mocking the school song are current North Texas students that wore orange to the arena. I counted 4-5. Some of the classless ones were actually people earning NT degrees

Not surprising.

No school pride in the basketball program in 2 short years.

Thank you, Tony Benford.

I was looking foward to going to El Paso in November. But after this afternoon, i feel like I've already been. The weather kept the Mean Green fans away but it had no effect on the Miners.

When I got to my seat, I had to ask a couple of UTEP fans to move. How do all these visiting fans get seats on the "50" ? I was surrounded by orange and blue. There were a couple of students and a few alums but North Texas was outnumbered today by about 10:1.

I've never felt so embarassed at a home game. It was as if UTEP was havaing an out of town d"home game."

Sleet ? Sure. But it sleeted on the UTEP fans as well. I don't know what to make of our fans.

Sorry forthe rant but for us to get shown up so badly by a team from 9 hours away, well, I don't know.

Beat Texas

GO MEAN GREEN

When you visit, try the Mexican food...if you can safely get in and out of Juarez.

Juarez does have some amazing food, but not even I will go down there anymore. I do, however, need some carnitas from Queretaro. El Paso proper has amazing food in its own right.

El Paso is easy to ridicule. It's not much to look at, but it can be a lot of fun. Great food, super friendly people.

El Paso is easy to ridicule because it's a ridiculous city. I am from EP and it's a great place to have in your rear view. That's precisely why they have so many fans in the DFW area. It suffers a massive brain drain because the educated people get out. (yes I get there are a few good jobs there) Super friendly? That's laughable at best. Try living there. Day to day life teaches you how bad the average Joe in El Chuco sucks. Try grocery shopping and you'll want to fight someone.

People going to the game should have fun. The Mexican food is good and there will be beer everywhere. Two days anywhere can be fun, especially when we should destroy them in football.

I remember seeing threads like this the first couple of times we played at SMU, just shock at how many fans we bring to games. I was chatting with some Miner fans who have an affiliation with UNT (in one way or another) and they were saying that y'all didn't have any clue how overrun the Super Pit was going to become with Miner fans. And while it's obvious there would have been a much better UNT crowd if the icestorm wouldn't have hit, believe me when I say that I know of quite a few Miner fans who didn't attend either due to the weather.

I know people who said the same thing you just did but for the football game last year. They were dead wrong. UTEP attendance wasn't impressive in the least. Our basketball team the last two seasons is as bad as your football team. Fans are fickle... Edited by UNTexas

UTEP brought in about as many people as UTSA did, for a team that 1-7 at the time. The only visiting crowd bigger than UTSA/UTEP last year was Houston, when they had a top 25 team and a legit BCS busting hope.

If UTEP ever comes in here with a winning team they will have a lot of fans with them.

I guess you've not really kept up with their football program. Winning seasons don't happen often. My youth was wasted as a season ticket holder watching them lose. They were good in basketball though. Back when Haskins was the coach. It was fun to watch.

Oh, I agree. It's more of a frustration with OUR current situation than a slight against the UTEP fans (although it was poor taste).

It's more a comment on how WE can do nothing to stop this type if thing, either on the court or in the stands (by having enough attendance not to make this a UTEP home game).

i'm happy it happened, maybe at some point Ricky V will get it through his head that this is nightmare is still happening

Family is from Ft. Hancock so I know about UTEP. I also know there isn't *that* much to do in the EP. UTEP kills us in attendance when they are bad and just brutalize our corpses in the rare years they are good.

2013:

UTEP 28,375

UNT 21,030

2012:

UTEP 29,374

UNT 18,927

2011:

UTEP 26,498

UNT 18,864

2010:

UTEP 29,350

UNT 17,718

2009:

UTEP 29,010

UNT 18,228

2008:

UTEP 37,926

UNT 16,956

2007:

UTEP 36,569

UNT 17.734

2006:

UTEP 42,444

UNT 15,650

2005:

UTEP 47,899

UNT 15,446

Also, the only great thing to come out of UTEP is At the Drive-In and Relationship of Command is a near perfect record.

UTEP attendance benefits greatly from not having to compete locally with a MLB, NFL, MLS, NHL, NBA team. You know, the very teams that make our situation in DFW very very difficult

I agree completely. I said there is not that much to do. You can only go to Chico's Tacos so many time... I guess you could now catch a Chihuahua's game now.

You could always go back to Fort Hancock and mail postcards.

Well, I've never been to Spain...

They have a funny accent. They also can't stand hot food around Madrid. My brother took a pack of Big Red gum and it was so spicy it made several peoples eyes water.

Getting mentioned in Shawshank and winning multiple Six Man Football titles is the only thing the place has going for it.

I often wondered if Zihuatanejo's tourism ever went up because of that film.

Never thought I'd ever hear ATDI mentioned on GMG.com.

It's because we're all old men.

Well, considering the amount deniers on that climate change thread, I tend to view this place as lots of conservative old dudes...but hey, ATDI and TMV are incredible.

I am 126 years old.

ATDI is incredible, The Mars Volta and Sparta are both sub par shadows, and I am glad ATDI is touring again

You didn't like Deloused...Frances...Goliath...?!?

Hate to break it to you but Cedric and Omar hate each other, the Lollapalooza show was the last ATDI show. (Omar is kind of a tool.)

Said with appropriate religious zeal and language.

Funny, considering I vote Republican.

It's not really a political or religious issue, more of just a basic logic issue, but you know, I'll save that argument for the actual thread.

Didn't say I didn't like, but it all paled in comparison to ATDI.

Damn it, there was talk about them touring after since the Coachella and Lolla shows went so well, which, btw I saw #HipsterBrag #ATDIFanboy #CapsLockIsCruiseControlForCool
