I don't support what Benford has done. He has been a failure so far. That being said I don't agree with some of the things you people come up with to bash him on.

No basketball knowledge is just as frustrating as this basketball team.

Agreed. I have no choice but to be on the opposite side because it's either support a losing coach or support low basketball IQ community. Not saying I am much better, but I have enough sense to know what is wrong and say it without blindly attacking him.

I'm not saying he has faults. I just think it's ridiculous people just jump on the man. Instead of saying we did this right, but let's improve on this they just bash the man none stop. It gets old. Then they want to praise JJ who was also bashed left and right. It makes for a very weak fan base. Especially when you consider people come on and read what is posted.

Casual fans don't come here.

I mean, when we used to have casual fans and when a school an 11 hour drive away didn't have more fans at a game in Denton than UNT, that is.

What has given you any indication that Benford can coach big men?

Don't you think lack of an offensive system leads to less open shots, which leads to a worse shooting percentage?

What exactly are we trying to do on offense? Anyone know? I couldn't tell you from today's game.

We tried to play zone against UTEP and were ripped to shreds. Why? Coaching. UTEP'S offensive spacing and big man high low game against that 2-3 we ran out in the first half was precision perfect. Of course, our terrible rotation and defensive confusion helped them out quite a bit.

Meanwhile, our guys get nuggets of wisdom like "box out" when UTEP lines up for free throws.

But it's not coaching. Not at all.

Also, if you are foolish enough to think that it is the players fault for not being able to shoot, then whose fault is it for recruiting such players to campus? Remember, many who contributed to this terrible shooting percentage today are Benford's recruits, so...

We went man pretty much the entire game on defense. Offensively we just need to take shots. UTEP took contested shots and made them, when they missed they unbounded. We just looked for the open shot which rarely came and then sucked our head and took it into the paint. That is a mix of both coaching and players. I just think we need to shoot. I am not half as good as I use to be but if there is even 6 in between me and my defender I am going to shoot it.

We went man because they MADE us go man, Andrew! Did you miss the first 5 minutes of the game?

I swear, your basketball knowledge could fit in a thimble.

I was there. I was still getting settled but to my knowledge we pretty much started out in man. I figured we would when we realized were undersized. I was hoping we would deny the ball more and over play their guys.

16-66 is not all on Benford. You act like he teaches them to shot bad. You really think that Benford coaches bad technique when it comes to shooting the ball?

Benford teaches them to play really really bad basketball.

He teaches them very well.

Yes our big men are concerning. Coleman hasn't produced like many thought he would this year.

We ran a motion offense. Have been all year.

We play zone because we struggle with on the ball man D and penetration kills us. The zone is trying to mask those deficiencies.

What's wrong with reminders. He is telling them to blockout bc of previous games.

So you think that he recruited poor shooters on purpose? UTEP had something to do with that shooting performance too. Somedays the ball just doesn't go in. I think we have more shooters this year than we did last year.

I'm not a Benford advocate.

Undersized and "you figured" we would start out in man? Lol.

We started out in some kind of combination of a 1-3-1 and 2-3. It didn't appear we knew which one we were playing. UTEP forced us out of it by slicing and dicing it with ease.

We are just bad. But that is never the coaches fault, is it?

There were mistakes made by everyone. Coaches and players. Stop dealing in absolutes. That is what keeps me out of the "fire Benford" crusade right now. I'm not going to just blindly attack him.

As you can see his subbing patterns were not what they were last year. And yes we were stagnant on offense. That is both coaches and players to me. Coaches do set up offenses, but players create. It's a two street. Honestly it all is. Ultimately coaches will take the blame because they will always be there while players will come and go.

I just want UNT to succeeded. Keep or remove Benfoed I will never miss a game and support the team. I will be worried no matter who the coach is what will happen after next season. There could be issues.

I'll do it for you. Get this man out of here!! I'm sure he's a good guy but he is a sucky coach.

Ya, isn't it reassuring to know that it took Benford a full year to figure out how to run normal collegiate substitution patterns?

You do realize this doesn't help you make any point, right?

There is no such thing as normal substitution patterns. Define it with facts. You can't. Laughable.

Substitution patterns, we are talking about substitution patterns? Ridiculous. They aren't the reason we are struggling. They never have been the cause of loss nor do they make Benford a bad coach.

There are other things this team does that points to his struggles as a coach. Not one of them is substitution patterns.

What about his repeated subbing out the hot hand? I'm not sure how to back that up with stats, but it seems to happen several times a game.

Sometimes coaches sub out people who are doing better bc they don't always want to take out a kid for a bad play. Some players have fragile mental make up.

It happens more than you think.

UTEP attacked our D bc they are weak and have no force inside. When the basket is attacked 3 things can happen and 2 of them are good for the offensive team. We just flip the ball back and forth and then take a contested 15-17 foot jumper. That's bad offense. There is no scheme in place! Really, WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO DO ON OFFENSE!!! Will someone please tell me?!?! What is the schematic offensive game plan for our team. I have been to 6 games this year and have sat there shaking my head in disgust/amazement/embarrassment. Will someone explain what Benford is trying to accomplish from a basketball standpoint in our half court offense. I am disgusted. And Andrew just sits here saying, "it's all good." Wake up and pay attention, our bball team has been atrocious for 2 years. Who are we suppose to hold accountable? If Benford comes back and if you don't count promo games our attendance might fall under 1k. HIGH SCHOOLS get better attendance than a 40k college student body. Smh.

Regardless of your views of Benny , I hope everyone makes it out to the Tulsa game. I'd really hate for Guys like Alzee & Bwalt's last memories of the Super Pit to be playing in front of a few hundred fans

Alzee is the last dude that has been on a NCAA Tournament team at North Texas. Kind of a changing of the guard moment for me. I feel like I watched those teams grow up with each other. After Walton and Alzee leave, only 2 players (CJ and JW) will be left over Jones guys, and if memory serves, the only 2 on the team that have been here since their freshmen year.

Last year was anything but normal. Guys in the game sometimes for only 30 seconds mid-game. I sat directly behind the UNT bench last year year. To say Benford had no substitution plan would be giving him far too much credit. It was pure mayhem, and I am convinced sometimes he didn't know the guy that he just pulled had entered the game only 30 seconds earlier.

Saw it from 10 feet away. Call it what you want, but what it wasn't was an organized substitution pattern with any kind of purpose.

Whatsoever.

He has other things to care about than some beer'ed up fan who doesn't know much about the game of basketball.

Like fixing his broken defense and offense.

Nobody said anything about caring more about feelings than wins. That's just your attempt to try spin things your way. Sorry that sometimes the fan can't see outside the box.

Disclaimer: Not a Benford advocate. Advocate for smart basketball fans.

I'm drinking wine tonight...As if. .beer every night ...

As for him caring more about fixing things than feelings...shouldn't that equate ti leaving the hot hand in the game???

I don't know much about coaching basketball...and I don't really care...just a fan that has seen a tremendous downgrade in our schools tram since benford came on...
