Yet another big lineman in the 2015 class has a Division I scholarship offer. Ringling offensive tackle Riley Daniel was offered by North Texas over the weekend.

Daniel, 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds, is the third offensive lineman in the 2015 class to receive a D-I offer, along with Lawton’s Jalin Barnet, 6-4, 315, and Oklahoma commit Josh Wariboko-Alali of Casady, 6-3, 310. Defensive lineman Marquis Overton of Jenks is also committed to Oklahoma.

Daniel has three Division I offers — Tulsa, Houston and North Texas — with several major programs still keeping close tabs on the 6-foot-6, 310-pound tackle.

Daniel was a late-emerging talent on the recruiting scene. Some might credit that to being in Ringling, but considering he’s the second Division I player to come out of Ringling in the last three seasons, that doesn’t hold up.

Daniel was slow to emerge, because he only started playing offensive line as a sophomore.

Daniel, who is 6-foot-6, 310 pounds and ranked No. 16 on The Oklahoman’s Super 30, also had offers from Tulsa and North Texas.

But Houston promising to honor their offer should he get hurt this season was the tipping point.

“They said they would give me my scholarship either way if I got hurt my senior year or not,” Daniel said. “Most other schools won’t do that for you. It’s kind of a safety deal.

“It can be pretty scary because if you get hurt, you’re done.

Crap!

But, that could be good news. That might mean that someone that they have ranked above him is showing some real interest. It could also mean that they are looking for a guard and/or a center rather than another tackle.

Good luck to the young man. I hope his decision was based on more than who will keep their scholarship promise and that he realizes they ard renewed on an annual basis.
