UNT picked up former Texas A&M linebacker and Denton Ryan standout Jordan Richmond a few days ago, a move we discussed on the blog.

Quick review — Richmond was a high-end talent on a loaded Ryan defense, signed with A&M, got into some legal hot water and then left the school.

After doing some asking around, the story is Richmond sat out a semester after leaving College Station to decide what he wanted to do and if he wanted to continue to play.

Richmond will try to revive his career at UNT.

So how does that sitting out a semester play into his eligibility at NT? Would that mean he sits this spring and then be allowed to participate in this upcoming fall season?

“There is a different atmosphere over there,” Florence said of UNT. “It starts with [uNT athletic director] Rick Villarreal. People are taking notice of what is going on over there.

Nice compliment for RV...

Exactly. We don't really care about how good he could be. We already understand that...

When is he going to be eligible?

Notice that Florence did not comment on the kid's character, only his ability and his need to make good decisions. Usually if a kid is a good kid that is the first thing his high school coach will say about him... I like that we are taking a chance on this kid.
